Meet Lily JJ

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lily JJ.

Lily JJ is a creative singer and songwriter who grew up in Japan listening to her father play Jazz and Latin-Jazz records every Sunday morning in her childhood. She loves dancing and art but decided to pursue music. She started with vocal and piano lessons gaining technique and performance skills. Driven by a desire to express herself, Lily started writing her original songs when she was seventeen and has been sharing her thoughts with her audience ever since. Due to her own personal experiences, her message is for people who struggle with their inferiority, loneliness, and/or lack of self-respect. Lily had different and unique thoughts from other people in Japan which made things challenging, so she decided to create music to give her fans a sweet, heartwarming moment to brighten their day.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In Japan, one usually doesn’t talk about themselves unless asked. It has been challenging for me to be open and talk about my personality because of the cultural barriers growing up in Japan. I didn’t mean to be shy or close-minded but it takes time for me to organize and have clear thoughts in my head. I’m a deep thinker and I don’t believe anything is simply black and white most of the time. There’s a big gradation of grey (or rainbow) and I pay attention to that zone.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’m performing as a solo artist and I’m in a couple bands to help focus on my performance career. I’m also working on releasing my first two EPs and expanding my songwriting career.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I would say hardworking, patience and the ability to know what is a good opportunity and what is not. It would be awesome if you’re talented, young, and have a lot of money, but it won’t keep you in the spotlight forever. However, if you love what you do and keep working hard and patiently then the chance will come for you to grab! That all comes from your heart and never runs out.
