Today we’d like to introduce you to Lili Pettit
Hi Lili, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
As a child I sought out junk drawers and would organize them just for fun. I was the kid who wanted to rearrange furniture and fold my clothes as soon as they came out of the dryer.
My path started out in public relations, meandered through fashion school led me to wardrobe styling. Eventually I found myself in a position to start my own company and, to be honest, it was exactly what I’d wanted because I never enjoyed working for others and always envisioned building something of my own.
Organizing has always come naturally to me and trash day is my favorite day of the week. I know I’m an odd bird and a bit compulsive when it comes to how I keep my home, but I’m a perfectionist at my core. When the opportunity to organize Jessica Alba’s closet, and eventually most of her entire estate landed on my lap, I took it and ran with it.
Clutter Healing, Inc. was conceived in 2009 and became an officially trademarked corporation in 2011.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road to get to where I am today and despite all the pretty photos you see on social media, running a business as a mother is HARD! When I first started out I was working 5 different jobs to make rent. I would valet cars on the weekends, do wardrobe styling gigs and worked part time for a friend as his personal assistant all while building an organizing business. Today, I have a team of 5 spirited women that work with me on almost every project, however, running the back-end side of things has been mostly all me for a very long time.
We’ve been impressed with Clutter Healing, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our in-home organizing projects and relocation services support clients in reducing the stress associated with large scale whole home decluttering and moving. Our service is different from others in that we go the extra mile to make sure that donations don’t end up in the landfill by creating relationships with local agencies and communities that need what others discard.
Every detail has been thought of as if our client’s homes were our own.
From kids’ rooms to kitchens, the Clutter Healing team creates order, alignment and a profound sense of calm with organizational systems designed to fit your lifestyle. Whether it’s maximizing space to turn your home into a sanctuary or coordinating and categorizing to make things easy to find, we want to inspire the way you live.
Our client’s experience is what I am most proud of. The work of organizing extends far beyond bins, labels and systems. When I receive texts like the ones I’ve shared below, that’s when I’m assured that this deep healing work of organizing is truly magical.
“Your team is amazing!! I’ve finally slept through the night now that my mind is at ease. I’ve suffered with lack of sleep for years but since our first session I have slept soundly for the first time in ages!” – RJ
“The house feels so open now that you helped us let go of the clutter. Thank you for helping this busy working mama get things done” -Dash Lavender
“I want to live in my pantry. Is that wrong?” – Lindsay Wheat
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Most of my childhood was spent in Norman, OK and the long humid hot summer days were spent in and out of the pool, eating pizza and listening to what is now called “yacht rock.” Times were simpler then. We were mesmerized by the lightning bugs, hail in the middle of summer accompanied by wild thunder and a sense that time was untethered.
