Thanks for sharing your story with us Maximillian. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have been a proud Halloween freak since I was a kid and nearly destroyed my family home each year while in Junior High and High School. My love for creating fun environments and experiences paved the way for me to create Ultra Productions, which focuses on promotional stunts and experiences for new movies for major studios. For many years I have been the creative “secret weapon” for studios such as Disney, Warner, Fox, Universal, etc., with large scale stunts for movies like Wonder Woman, The Avengers, La La Land, Dark Knight, and many more. Producing groundbreaking installations at Comic-Con in San Diego also gave me great insights into crafting a genuine guest experience with details that enable the guest to feel the love that went into creating the experience for them.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road to horror is never smooth, hahaha… The biggest struggle in creating I Like Scary Movies was conveying the vision and getting people to understand that I wanted to truly create something that hadn’t been done before and why. I wanted to start a spark that would ignite people’s love for these movies in a more artistic and unconventional way. The new and different is always scary for people, but thankfully, I had great support from people at Warner Brothers that championed the cause.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
What I’m proud of and what also sets myself and Ultra apart is the painstaking attention to detail. These details are what enables fans to connect with something I’ve created. I focus on both the macro and the micro details, what things are made of, how they feel from a tactile standpoint and how the fans can actually interact with them functionally. These details are what set something apart from my installations. Fans can feel the heart that goes into it.
What are your plans for the future? What are you looking forward to or planning for – any big changes?
The plan for I Like Scary Movies is to expand to other markets nationally and possibly even go international. The requests from around the globe have been so cool, fans of scary movies are excited to celebrate together and have a good time and we welcome the opportunity to celebrate with them.
