Meet Lia Farrington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lia Farrington.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Lia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have been a singer and lyricist for as long as I can remember. As a child, I had several notebooks where I would write lyrics and poems, and I would record myself and my songs on cassette, either alone or with my little sister and friends. I wrote songs about everything from going to the grocery store to unrequited elementary school love. I grew up in New Jersey, spending my days in choir and musical theater, which built up my voice and my confidence.

I moved to Los Angeles after high school with no solid plan in mind, just knowing I wanted to create music, and that LA felt like the right place to do it. I tried to trust that the right people and right music would happen at the right time.

In November 2018, I found myself at an incredible open jam called Tha Juice Joint for the very first time. A freestyle of lyrics and melodies I came up with on stage that night was born into my very first release, “I Am The One”, a track about the beauty of self-love, and the empowering feeling of independence and knowing you are the master of your own life.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I have spent about 5 or 6 years writing, recording, and performing in LA, and that has come with a roller coaster of emotions, from elation to deep disappointments. I feel like I have experienced so many “almost” moments, only to take ten steps back. I went through dozens of songs, scrapped two EPs, and a few different bands and managers. I was told that I would feel it when the songs were right… Finally, with “I Am The One”, I felt it. And moreover, I felt that I was living my purpose and my dreams. My vision for my next few releases is to show the stages of finding myself and this space of radical self-acceptance and compassion.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am most proud of myself and the time I allowed myself to come into my own and find my sound and vision. I honed my voice and my craft and found myself surrounded by a community that truly support me and inspire me to be better. I actually just had my first radio guest spot ever this August! I strive for honesty and vulnerability in my music. I want to show listeners who I am while allowing them to see themselves in me as well. You are never alone.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I think the only thing I would have done differently is to have enjoyed the process a bit more. Enjoyed the lows because they made the highs so much better, and enjoyed the moments instead of looking for the next one. That’s what I’m trying to do now. And I probably would’ve tried to learn guitar and piano at a younger age—I still have yet to truly get the hang of it. My voice is my main instrument.
