Today we’d like to introduce you to Lexii.
Lexii, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always loved superheroes, comics, and movies! At my high school, we had dress-up days, one of them was to dress as who you wanted to be when you grew up. Naturally, I dressed as Spider-Man. I didn’t get into the con scene until my dad brought it up. One day, he asked if I wanted to go to a comic convention in Los Angeles.
Of course, I said yes! His next question was if I wanted to go in costume. And I said yes to that too! We went, had a blast, took tons of pictures, and I made an Instagram for my cosplays back in April of 2017. Fast forward to today, and I now have 129 thousand followers! It’s pretty cool to be my geeky self and feel so loved for it.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been interesting. I post a lot of silly things on the internet that receives immense amounts of love and sometimes hate. I have to tell myself that these people could never say these things to my face, they are hiding behind a screen because something is wrong with them, not me.
Other than that, this road has been lovely. I’ve met so many new friends, and I’ve done some crazy things that would never have happened if I didn’t get into this! The goal is to surround myself with positive people who make this fun because that’s what this is supposed to be, fun!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Darthlexii – what should we know?
Technically, I’m my own brand. My main focus is to promote myself, which is a little funny because it’s really easy. I get to post tons of fun images of cosplay, network with photographers, and basically just be myself. It’s a great business if you like yourself, which I do! I’m considered a micro-influencer.
A company sends me a product, I find a unique way to promote it, and then post it on my Instagram. I am a bit picky though! I only use companies that I like, or I think my followers would enjoy. As I said before, though, my main product is my brand, me!
I’m most known for advocating Spider-Man (my favorite character) and doing quirky videos. I promote myself in order for companies to want to promote me. Still with me? Hahaha! It’s a little superficial, isn’t it?
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Being genuine. What you see on my page is who I am. I try to bring positivity to people through my craft, and I hope my page shows that.
The reason I cosplay is because I genuinely love it. I get to become the heroes I’ve looked up to and be that for the kids and other people. I only hope I’m doing it justice.
I also pride myself on being silly. Life is too short to always be so serious all of the time. Smile, I promise it makes things better.
