Meet Lex Covello of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lex Covello.

Hi Lex, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started off as a freelancer post in New York City after completing a video fellowship with BuzzFeed. From there I went on to create content both video and photography for brands such as Tastemade, Hanes, Express and more! After receiving a full time position in LA I moved out her and continue to pursue content creation on the side!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been as smooth road for me- or any freelancer if you asked them I think. The road looks different for everyone which is beautiful but one of the things about that means there is no right path like some other occupations. You have to figure it out on your own and make mistakes. Something I wish colleges would create is a course in freelancing. So you can take some of the struggle out of learning why it is important to have a contract, how to write an invoice, what information you need for your taxes and so much more. I think these basic things are something ever beginning freelancer struggles with in the beginning.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a videographer, photographer & strategic social media consult who specializes in food, travel, hospitality and pop culture content! I am most known for my food account Covello’s Cuisine who has worked with and featured on brands such as Tastemade and more. You may also know me from the viral Cody Ko video where he reacts to middle schoolers bullying adults. Though I may be the same height as a middle schooler- I am unfortunately one of the adults being bullied in said video. But it does give me a good chuckle.

One of the things I am most proud of are the different experiences I have been able to go one because of my content- I recognized not everyone has these opportunities and I am just so proud of the work I have created that led me to them!

I think something that sets me apart from others is my sense of humor- everyones is different and I just truly love mine- enough to try stand up!

Who else deserves credit in your story?
I have had so many mentors and supporters throughout the years. Every morning I wake up and journal and part of it is filling to a section of “what am I grateful for” and almost always it is a who and not a what.

My parents from the beginning and always will be my biggest supporters. They let me take as many elective art classes as I wanted to in high school. Encouraged me to look at schools with film programs and then helped send me there. And to this day are always happy to be my plus one, tell someone not to touch the food until I’m done and my first comment and like on everything I post.

I wouldn’t be me without them and I am so grateful for them .
