Meet LUII of Orange County, California

Today we’d like to introduce you to LUII.

Hi LUII, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I loved music all my life, growing up in the early 2010s listening to all the hip-hop/rap and pop/EDM that was trending at the time which led me to liking EDM music mashed up with hip-hop. I first watched a Marshmello at EDC set in 2016 on Youtube on a trip which then led me to loving DJing and producing music. At 14 years old, I first got my 100$ mixer and then started learning how to mix by practicing everyday after school for hours. Then a year later, I learned how to produce music for a couple of years and then got better at it, I started by making edits of my favorite songs and then producing my own trap/hip-hop records and also some EDM records all throughout middle school and high school. I made my SoundCloud and started posting when I was 16 and started off with DJ LUII, I posted all my edits and records which got me connections and people knowing my music by playing them at the club. A couple years later after high school, I started hustling DJing parties and private events to market myself and bring in some income to invest into my DJ equipment. A couple of months later, I got booked into a few local nightclubs in my area, playing open format music and house music, also changing my name to just LUII. I started bringing in more buzz to the clubs, getting more locally known and getting booked in more nightclubs in my area and getting my name on billboards, and also getting ready to make my LA debut at Catch One LA in September 7th and still playing my local clubs. With my vlogs, pr ideas, marketing and networking im hoping to continue getting more and more buzz and getting more bookings and hopefully play festivals and tour out of state in the near future with my team.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We all know life happens, school, work and feeling like your not any making progress, I always fear of giving up on something as you never know how it could end up either good or bad, but I truly love my craft and the fact that music is the only thing makes me happy and can switch my mood and make me forget my problems. But for the past years I did not give up and the hard work is paying off as I’m currently getting more shows and getting more buzz around my name. I still stand by and always believe in dreams coming true and not giving up always comes with a good outcome.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a DJ/ music producer going on since I was 13 and I just turned 21 this year. I produce hip-hop, trap, and house music and most of the time mashing up all time famous sing alongs anthems into house records, Im locally very known for my mixing in nightclubs I play around me as I usually play the songs the crowd haven’t heard in a while and the best singalongs. I proud of how I started producing and DJing in my room years ago, to playing very famous nightsclubs in SoCal and making my LA show debut in a few weeks. I truly believe my music production style is different, if you ever come see me live , you’ll hear a difference in my edits/mashups to my house records with little details I focus on to set myself apart from others.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
That year I took a 2-3 month break on music production and DJing, discovering new music, new styles and making new synths and buying new plugins like serum. During that time I would be home alot just hearing the new music trends and hoping the concert/club scene would be making a return soon, also giving me more time on taking music very seriously and getting very into detail with music production and also learning more. I did get a few zoom call DJ gigs during that time for rappers on their music release dates which was cool.
