Today we’d like to introduce you to Levon Akopyan and Natasha Root.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Levon and Natasha. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My father is a second generation cobbler and I began helping him in his first shop in LA during my teens. He wanted me to learn the craft as it was passed on to him from his father in Armenia.
It’s been a wonderful 25+ years! Choosing Malibu was a decision my father made, as I was only 20 years old at the time. However, shortly after, the shop became my sole responsibility. I chose to stay in Malibu and nurture the business as it was. Malibu was a great place with wonderful people. Still is!
My philosophy is simple – I treat my customers like I want to be treated, with respect, care and honesty. With clients from as far away as Europe, New York, and Las Vegas. I take pride in being trusted with their treasured goods and do my best to bring them back to life. Whether they are a pair of loafers purchased in Italy, or a handbag that’s traveled across many oceans, they each have a story to tell and I’m Honored to be a part of that journey!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s definitely been a challenging journey but I’ve enjoyed every day, and still do! I continue to put in 6 full days a week, and every so often misses important family events and gatherings. It would be great to be able to leave the shop mid-day to enjoy a lunch date with my wife!
Malibu is a unique community where your reputation and loyalty are carefully considered and measured! You are either loved or disliked! I’ve worked very hard to be “loved” and respected, so it’s a responsibility I don’t take very lightly!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about European Shoe Repair and PurseRehab – what should we know?
We refurbish, restore and repair leather goods: Shoes, bags, belts, luggage, and saddlery. I’ve even restored antique leather furniture, car seats and leather boat cushions!
We specialize in high-end luxury handbags and shoes: Gucci, Chanel, LV, Hermès, Balenciaga, etc… We concentrate on intricate repairs – Broken zippers, ripped or torn handles, severe staining and water damage, chipped or tarnished hardware, pet damage. Just to name a few.
What sets us apart is the quality of our work and superior customer services! Nothing gratifies more than seeing a happy customer!

My father is the one who taught me my craft, so he’s an important individual that led me to this journey.
My wife, is my biggest fan and supporter. She’s the one who I always bounce my ideas off of and share my creative thoughts with. Her opinion and partnership is invaluable and I wouldn’t be here if she wasn’t by my side!
