Meet Lesley Logan of Lesley Logan Pilates in Westwood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lesley Logan.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I discovered Pilates when I was living in Costa Mesa, CA. I fell in love with it during my first class. I never felt so connected to my body and so alive after a workout! I changed my work schedule to allow me to go to class every day. When I moved to LA I struggled to find Pilates classes that were as strong and invigorating as what I was used to. I met a great teacher and she encouraged me to become a Pilates instructor. That was back in 2008 and I have been teaching ever since. My Pilates teaching has always been on the Westside but I’ve been able to spend time teaching on the Santa Monica bluffs training elite marathon runners for Nutribullet in 2012-13. In 2013 I was surprised to find out I was voted LA’s best Pilates! My teaching journey led me to train Pilates apprentices from 2011-2016. I also searched out more than my original training. In 2013 I finished my Masters Pilates training at the Pilates Center in Boulder, CO and in 2016 I spent a year training with Pilates Elder Jay Grimes at Vintage Pilates. I now spend my time teaching clients and Pilates teachers locally in LA, online via Skype/Facetime and Pilates retreats all over the world! In March I will be leading a retreat to Siem Reap, Cambodia and in April Maui!!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No journey is ever a smooth road, but every twist and turn have been for the best! I was lucky to find the studios I initially started teaching in, and then one day out of the blue the studio I rented space from announced it was closing. Just like that my business had no place to live. Luckily my friends opened up Westwood Pilates, and I was able to move my clients down the street to their new space and it’s been such an amazing experience!

Please tell us about Lesley Logan Pilates.
I am a Pilates Instructor, and I specialize in teaching the way that Joseph Pilates originally designed his method. His orders, his exercises, his equipment designs and his intentions. I primarily teach Privates in person and online; I teach mat classes two times a week for those who are class lovers at Yogaworks Westwood. My clients range in age from 11-93, and their level of experience is from beginner to Pilates teacher! I teach a lot of Pilates teachers due to my background and several Pilates training. I love that as my knowledge and client base has grown, I have been able to incorporate teaching people all over the world via the internet and also through Pilates retreats! There are plenty of yoga retreats out there but not many (if any) Pilates retreats. The benefits of Pilates are more than a strong core. Every time you take a session with me your workout is tailored to where your body is that day, what it needs and your goals. It’s not always about the “burn.” Instead, it’s about meeting you wherever you are and taking you one step further on your journey. Expanding into online and retreats allows me to teach more people than just those in LA and travel too!

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I don’t believe in regrets. I think all the lessons I have had in my business led me to where I am today. However, if I could be exactly where I am but having done a few changes I would have used tax software much sooner and started doing retreats earlier. But, it’s been a fun wild ride and so the ups and downs have all been part of the process and totally worth it.
