Today we’d like to introduce you to Laurent Gache.
Laurent, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Born in Paris, France. I started as an art painter in a private workshop in Montmatre, Paris. Then went to the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts in St Germain, Paris for 4 years. I then became an apprentice antique restorer and spent 10 years in this business in Paris ending with my own studio. For business reason I moved to New York for 6 months then to San Francisco for a year and half, then to LA. I have been living in LA for the past 32 years and own my business since then. I have restored and appraised antiques for many “rich & famous” within LA and my business is referred by Sotheby’s, Christie’s, Bonham’s and the Getty Museum. I still have a French accent 😉
Has it been a smooth road?
Not an easy road!!! I have been sober for 24 years. My oldest daughter who I met when she was twenty years old (her mother went out of the picture when she was pregnant) is now in my life and gave me two adorable grand kids. My youngest daughter and son are both sober as well. However life is now pretty good.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the LG Antique Restoration & Appraisal story. Tell us more about the business.
I have been the owner of LG Antique Restoration & Appraisal for the past 32 years. I am a master restorer and appraise antique furniture, fine art and decorative objects. My company has a very good reputation within a large private clientele as well as professionals. What makes me proud is the fact that I am saving historical antique furniture from disappearing, working on it the same way than in the 18th century that is setting me apart from others.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
No big shifts or changes…it’s good like it is.
