Meet Lauren Whitney Pennington of Spiced Sugah

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Whitney Pennington.

Lauren Whitney, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I grew up in the south, (Jackson, Mississippi) where it is extremely hot and humid and my skin was always insanely dewy from all of the moisture in the air. Once I moved to LA, my skin became needy. The dry air was new to me and my skin suffered. It became noticeably dry and no matter what products I tried nothing gave lasting results. I started experimenting with DIY masks and face tonics and just testing different oils, butters, and creams on my face.

This went on for a few years and then I became friends with this die hard vegan couple who changed how I viewed everything I put on/in my body and that’s when I really became a research junkie and started making my own toothpaste, mouthwash, just daily necessities. It wasn’t until my family and friends tried some of my concoctions and encouraged me to launch a line, that I started to take the idea of launching a wellness line serious. I am glad I listened.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I launched Spiced Sugah in August and so far, it’s been so much fun that I almost want to call it a smooth road with just a few small bumps. I’m still honeymooning with the brand so it is hard to say. I think the biggest thing is I hand make and jar pack every product so it is extremely tedious and time consuming and when orders all come in at the same time, it can be a bit overwhelming.

Please tell us about Spiced Sugah.
Spiced Sugah is a 100% organic wellness line specializing in ingredients for even the most sensitive skin. All of the products are full of organic, cold pressed carrier oils and essential oils like avocado, coconut, shea butter, rosemary, helichrysum, sandlewood, and myrrh to name a few. I research and test some of the most exotic oils and herbs that have a small enough molecular value to be fully absorbed by the skin and mouth so that they can actively work to repair and or maintain a healthy you. I stay true to the work organic and only use plant based oils like Neem to act as a preservative and ensure a 2-year shelf life.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Watching my dad laid back in his recliner reading the newspaper while my mom butter pancakes in the kitchen, and my kid sister letting me brush her hair. I miss those Sunday’s.
