Meet Lauren White

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren White.

Hi Lauren, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey to where I am today is not a straight line nor a lucid one. I think what’s best is to work backward. What am I up to and where am I? This year is the year of pivoting and going big. I create and manage my time between three companies right now. First one being is driving my media company “The Love Of Lauren” to new reaches. Over the pandemic, I took a lot of time to write and dream up new ideas for my own brand. I’ve developed a podcast that I’ll be launching in Summer as well as created a show that I’ll be releasing on YouTube and Twitch. I’m very outspoken and have been called the female version of Howard Stern which I find as a great compliment as he has a way of interviewing people and so do I. It’s not vanilla, it’s not too naughty but somewhere in between. Along with those shows that I write, produce, film, and edit, I also have developed a few other unscripted shows within the TLOL (The Love Of Lauren) Universe. My goal in life has always been to entertain. I’ve always had the notion that I’ve wanted to lift others to a better state than how they came to me. If you meet me and you leave laughing or feeling a little lighter or have an extra skip in your step, then I’ve done my job. And if there is a camera, you bet my face is aching to be in front of it.

The second company that I’m passionate about is my husband and my’s company, T-Minus Productions. We are a film and TV production company where we develop scripts in house with our writers with the intention of selling them to networks, streamers, studios, etc. Some of the projects TJ will direct and some we’ll just produce. Part of that company is also a Stunt Department which is helmed by my husband TJ White. He’s a stunt coordinator/2nd Unit director and has been in the business almost 30 years. Designing action sequences and scenes for feature films, TV, commercials, and print. An amusing credit on TJ’s action director/stunt coordinator filmography is Will Smith’s 50th Birthday where Smith Bungee Jumped out of a helicopter over the Grand Canyon featured for Google and YouTube. He’s action-designed and stunt coordinated over 150+ music videos for artists like Jennifer Lopez, Pharrell Williams, Taylor Swift, Jaden Smith, Britney Spears, and more. TJ’s creative tastes has been crafted by years of working with the best, owning one of the top stunt rigging companies in the action business, and curating a library of projects has all enhanced his sharp eye for directing, which is what we are moving in to in this phase of his career as well.

Then as if that couldn’t be enough, over the pandemic we dreamed up a tech platform and have been developing that for the last eight months. It’s a tech platform called Jockoh and it’s an online marketplace for content creators to market and sell their video content. If you have some type of expertise or knowledge and you can teach it through a video then you need to be on Jockoh. You as a content creator get to upload free content, Subscriber content, and TVOD. So you’re creating your own economy with your content. We offer the creators a chance to set their own subscription price as well as their own video prices. You can also Live stream, zoom, have a place for a blog and have a shop feature. And the genres for the kind of content on the website run wide. Anywhere from a fitness trainer, yoga instructor, Spanish teacher, crypto expert, Art, cook, kids content, business, tech. It’s like Youtube meets Masterclass. We are really excited about this because what it does is it allows people to make money while they sleep. Their content is available for purchase 24/7 around the globe. So at any time someone could be learning from them and they don’t even have to be awake. The pandemic taught us a lot that we are moving more virtually every day and that there are only so many hours you can train others, so why not have a product that can repeatedly bring in capital. We are looking to launch end of Summer.

And the reason I went backwards and gave you a slice of what I’m doing is because how I got here is such a longer tale. Everything I’ve done so far in my life has shaped me and brought to me where I am today. I’ve been in all sorts of sales from retail, car, magazine, tech, to public relations to marketing to banking to talent management to film financing to acting to writing to just about the whole lot. I’ve had such a fun story or journey and it wasn’t always easy but I know everything I’ve learned in this short amount of time I’ve been on this earth are things that have helped me in all facets of my business today.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. Nor would I want it to. I say that now because they say hindsight is 20/20. But I’m glad it wasn’t smooth. If I followed the smooth cookie-cutter life that for a moment I was on, I would have been miserable. I thirst for adventure and conflict because nothing magical can be born if you don’t have that. It’s hard for me to think of struggles because I don’t dwell on those but I will mention one that was a catalyst to a whole new world. In my 20s, I had all sorts of jobs, I basically would have a job, reach the ceiling of my earning potential in that position, then find another job that would pay more and then keep climbing the money ladder. However in 2008 as we all know, there was a huge housing financial crisis. I saw the writing on the wall a year or so prior because I was a loan officer for a mortgage company and things were sliding down fast. But in 2008, I was laid off and at that time I was so done with the office atmosphere and the rat race. I was a Nine to Fiver and I just punched in and punched out and lived my life outside of that but it wasn’t fulfilling.

My mom said to me, why don’t you go to college and just see what you want to do. I was in my mid 20’s at this point and was never went to college but she insisted so I gave it a go. I ended up graduating from USC in Communication. I also studied broadcast journalism. It was such an experience. But it didn’t get gravy after that. It’s taken me years to finally kind of figure out where I want to cement my feet but now instead of a 9-5, I literally work every day and sometimes 12 hour+ days. But it’s not work, Its creating things that I want to do, creating things that I own, and making the life that I want to live. It’s hard and it’s not easy. The entertainment business is one of the most soul-draining businesses out there but I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. So sure there are some obstacles and you can ask me about some that I can expand on but for the most part, they are all silver linings to my rainbow.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I have to say I am most known for getting shit done. I am constantly happily bombarded with people saying, “wow Lauren, you’re so confident and you just pave your own way. I wish I could follow my dreams, etc.” and what’s funny is I struggle every day with keeping up that confidence. But I practice and practice and make sure that I don’t slip because for me, I can’t get to where I want to go by anyone else. It’s only me thats going to get me there. So I’m known for being a confident, outgoing, and a go getting hustler. thats my brand so to speak. But I’m sure I’m known for other things such as comedy and such but I wear a lot of hats so it’s hard to say.

What am I most proud of? Oof there is another great question. I’m very hard on myself so this is a bit tougher to answer. There are a lot of things I should be proud of but I’m always chasing after the next win and always knowing I could do better. I may have to come back to you on this. But I guess I’m proud of what I’ve built so far. I’m proud that I am relentless and I don’t give up. But again, I could do better.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Wow, well if I was to answer this pre-pandemic, that answer would be very very different. However, I think what the pandemic did was accelerate a lot of processes and technology that we knew were already going to be in place. Working from home and not having a massive overhead of an office building was something always on the horizon. Zoom meetings where you can have an actor in Atlanta meet with a director in Los Angeles always been something that we knew was going to be the norm. I see us working more virtually. But in filmmaking there is a connection that you cant get without connection. Thats what makes the art so special. The connection that you can create on screen translates to your audience and you just can’t get that when you’re filming virtually. Depending on how well we can contain a lot of these virus outbreaks on set, I see there being a bigger divide in studio features and independent space. We now have streamers that are studios.

Look at what Netflix has created. It’s unbelievable and now they are dominating the academy awards space which is insane considering that there is a huge snobbery against films that are streamed. I do think the theater business is going to come back but maybe not on a grand scale. But look, with being on lockdown for over a year, people are happy to get out and do things that were normal such as go to a movie theater however I think the movie theater will be mostly tentpole studio pictures. I’m not sure how well a small indie will do these days but there are lots of distribution outlets now. You’ve got Netflix as I stated, Amazon, Apple, Hulu, HBO, Disney+, Roku. There’s a lot of options. I’d love to go deeper into this on what shifts I see coming. Especially on the content side of things as well as the talent Side of things.

Lauren is a steam roller of creativity. Her unboundless energy is delicious. Swinging full out is her trademark, with a dynamic personality, like warm brown sugar percolating up & all over anyone lucky enough to get near her. Watching her dizzying progress is incredibly inspiring. I have to take a nap, but don’t, because I won’t want to miss any of her show. She’s the passionate mad hatter goddess of extreme art. Get in the Ferrari with her, or get outta the way. Wear a helmet.
