Meet Laura Samimi of Sweet Creations Bakery in Redondo Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Samimi.

Thanks for sharing your story with us laura. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Ever since I had my first child I knew I wanted to one day start my own business related to children. I’ve always enjoyed having theme parties for my kids. One year my daughter wanted a cake decorating party so I reached out to my local bakeries to see if they would host for us and I got no from everyone. I decided to do the party at my own home. We had a wonderful party and got so many compliments from all the moms. Not too long after the party, i decided that I would open up a bakery in my area and cater to children decorating events. It took me 2 months from then to secure a location and construction/remodeling started. At first, i thought, what am I thinking, I don’t bake. I’m a bookkeeper by trade and have worked as an independent contractor for past 10 years. I just figured I would hire staff and it would all come into place. While under construction I put myself to work in looking for bakers and staff. I was lucky enough to have found a great baker a few months before opening day. From him, i learned a lot in the kitchen and now bake everything in my bakery. I have laughed and cried through this whole process but I love what I do and enjoy going to work each and every day. My bakery not only caters to kid cake parties, we offer a range of yummy baked goods such as croissants, cookies, cupcakes, custom tier cakes and more. We’ve been open over a year now and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. It has grown and developed a lot in just 1 year. I still do bookkeeping for a few clients and I bake everyday in the bakery. I run a tight schedule with a husband and two kids. My husband and I have a 10-year-old girl and 5-year-old little boy. As much as I work, I still find time to be my kid’s Room parent, team parent and make sure I’m involved in all school events. I’ve come a long way and enjoy serving my community as Redondo beach does not have a local bakery in the area.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No way…… this is the hardest thing I’ve ever done. the road is very bumpy – I see now what people mean when they say “when you own a business, you live the business.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are Redondo Beach stand alone bakery. We specialize in kid cake decorating parties. What sets us apart- no other bakery in the area (the whole south bay) allows this in their bakery.

What were you like growing up?
I’ve always been a people person. I like to chat and get to now people. I always knew I wanted to start a business one day related to children
