Meet Laura Dewey of The Self Leadership LAB with Laura Dewey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Dewey.

Laura, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my coaching and training practice because I know firsthand the challenges leaders face—especially women leaders. For most of my 30+ years in leadership, I looked highly successful on the outside, but inside I was suffering. Overworking, overthinking, and overly concerned with what others thought of me left me exhausted, spent… and overly reliant on Chardonnay.

My turning point came when I got sober over 21 years ago. That began my true transformation. Through intentional inner work—and later a Master’s Program in Spiritual Psychology at the University of Santa Monica—I discovered a new way of being. I learned to lead myself from the inside out, living with grounded purpose instead of stress and struggle.

For the past 13+ years, I’ve been bringing this reimagined way of leading to executives, teams, and organizations. My work transforms leadership from survival and burnout into clarity, confidence, and effectiveness. Today, I help high-achieving professionals quiet their minds, trust themselves again, and create lives that feel as good as they look on paper.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I wouldn’t call it smooth—but I would call it rich with learning from day one.

I excelled at working for others, but when I stepped out on my own, I discovered that doing me, as me, for me was a whole different challenge. Suddenly, my work and my success felt deeply personal. In truth, the biggest obstacle in those early years wasn’t external—it was me. While I was always confident in my ability to coach and train, business development brought up layers of insecurity, comparison, and perceived limitation I hadn’t faced before.

Through years of experience, study and experimentation, I’ve refined my brand, strengthened my self-trust, and grown into the leader my business needed me to be. The learning hasn’t stopped, and I hope it never does. Each stage of growth brings new insights, and that continual evolution forces me to be more and more authentic and keeps my work stimulating.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about The Self Leadership LAB with Laura Dewey?
At the core of my work is a simple but powerful belief: Life and leadership doesn’t have to feel so hard. How you lead yourself inside shapes everything—your effectiveness, your relationships, your well-being, and even the culture around you. It’s the stuff no one taught us in school.

I founded The Self Leadership LAB to help high-achieving professionals and leaders transform the way they experience themselves, their teams, and their challenges.

What is Self-Leadership? It’s the ability to stay grounded and intentional inside even when all hell is breaking loose outside. It’s about learning to lead from the only place you truly can: within YOU.

Through 1:1 coaching, leadership development training, workshops, and speaking, I teach people to quiet the noise, manage their energy, and communicate with clarity and compassion, even in high-pressure environments.

What sets my work apart is its combination of depth and practicality. I don’t just talk about leadership—I help people live it. My programs blend proven leadership frameworks with the principles of Spiritual Psychology to create lasting transformation. Every concept is paired with concrete tools and real-life experiments designed to test new ways of thinking and being. That’s what makes The LAB the LAB—it’s experiential, curious, and built for growth in real time.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud that my work feels deeply human. Whether I’m coaching an executive, facilitating a retreat, or recording my podcast The Self Leadership LAB with Laura Dewey, I bring the same authenticity and humor that carried me through my own transformation. My brand embodies both grace and grit—proof that growth can be both powerful and gentle.

Ultimately, I want readers to know this: you already have the hidden power you’re searching for. Self-Leadership isn’t about becoming someone new—it’s about coming home to yourself, learning to navigate life’s chaos with calm confidence, and leading with vision, power, and peace.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I’ve never really believed in luck—I believe in grace. There’s a difference. Luck feels random; grace feels guided. Throughout my career, I’ve seen too many perfectly timed connections, chance encounters, and unexpected opportunities to dismiss them as coincidence.

What some might call luck, I call Divine synchronicity—moments of alignment that unfold when I’m on the right path. Over the years, clients and referring partners have often come from the most unlikely places: a conversation at the airport, a casual introduction, even a random comment on social media. These encounters always remind me that when I stay grounded, open, and aligned with purpose, the right people and opportunities find their way to me.

I do my best never to take those moments for granted. They’re daily evidence that something larger is at work—something I can trust. My job is simply to keep showing up as my best Self… and let grace handle the rest.
