Meet Laura DeRuyter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura DeRuyter.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Coming from The Netherlands with my family as a child, my insecurities mounted quickly and, discovering that I stood out as an artist gave me the confidence that I needed to make it through to adulthood. Excelling with my talent took me through life and pulled me through various trials and tribulations. Always working jobs that were needed for support and food, my safe zone was always my art to carry me through.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The obstacles and challenges are the fact that I have always been solely responsible for my being a success and artwork is my passion but existence needs more. Promotion of my work has always had obstacles and that is a feature that is not my forte.

Please tell us more about your art.
I am well versed and excel in many fields Painting on beautiful pieces of crystal is one such and have even painted portraits on lovely vases of special friends in the entertainment field, portraits of children and pets emulate their inner souls through their eyes. Eternal, gardens created on walls are well appreciated and admired. My jewelry creations are sculpted and one of a kind made with gold, silver, antique collected beads and semi-precious stones.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
One of my proudest moments was a portrait of a show dog Scottie, who, when confronting his portrait barked at it not realizing it was a portrait of him! Also bringing tears to the eyes of many in response to my work is very satisfying.
