Meet Laura Agakanian of Bellies, Babies and Bosoms in Glendale and Montrose

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Agakanian.

Laura, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was always passionate about babies. Even while I worked toward my bachelor’s degree in business marketing back in 1991 at CSUN, I took Human Pregnancy Biology classes and became certified as a birth doula. Coupled with that education and a love for babies, I turned my passion into a business designed to advocate breastfeeding, support new mothers, and cater to all motherhood needs.

My unique maternity boutique – Bellies, Babies & Bosoms – has been nursing the real needs of motherhood since 2003.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Any commitment involves a challenge. There are bumps in the road to success, in whatever you do. I like to look at those bumps at just hurdles to overcome. I pay attention to the “what’s next” vision, so that I can stay alert to prevent hardships. But “some struggles” have been exactly that, to stay ahead and scope out the daily mishaps so that I never compromise on customer service and caring for our clientele of new mothers.

Please tell us about Bellies, Babies and Bosoms.
Bellies, Babies and Bosoms is a unique maternity, baby, and breastfeeding boutique housed with a team of women that are staffed to support and empower all mothers in their pregnancy and breastfeeding journey.

Our mission is to serve the community of mothers with integrity, grace, and compassion; and to empower every mother with her choices. Bellies is known for excellent prenatal, lactation, and postpartum support. Our staff, who are mothers themselves, are committed to nurturing our customers with impeccable service and courtesy.

Bellies is your one-stop shop for maternity, baby, and breastfeeding needs. We offer a variety of products and services from maternity clothes, nursing bras, baby gifts, breast pump rentals, prenatal classes, and lactation consultations.

I am most proud of our consistency in service and our ability to grow and change as the market does. What sets us apart from others is our unique niche and our authentic expression of our mission, our staff is committed to exceptional customer service and overall support for the mom-to-be and the new mother. You feel that when you walk into Bellies. People always say that our store makes them feel warm and welcomed.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood are those times spent with my family. I remember going to the park weekly with my mom to play and picnic. I can recall the countless times my dad took me on long bike rides, road trips with my sisters, and even teaching me to play golf at 10 years old! I truly am blessed with the love and values I’ve inherited from my parents. Being Armenian, tradition is so important. All the rituals growing up, from having dinner together nightly, weekly gatherings with cousins, to yearly camping trips to Yosemite, have shaped me into who I am today.
