Today we’d like to introduce you to Larry Greene.
Larry, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I fell into health & fitness by accident. I grew up in the construction and development business following in my father’s footsteps. I built out a gym for a guy in my neighborhood. Next thing I know we are partners. Then I ended up buying him out because he did not hold up his end of the deal. SO, I quickly had to learn how to operate a small membership and training gym. It was a hobby from 2000 until 2008. During that time, I expanded the gym two times, became a certified personal trainer, and found my passion for helping people live their healthiest life. In 2008 the real estate crash happened. I dove full time into health & fitness. My passion and knowledge grew as I built a team of wellness professionals around me so we can help people beyond just “diet and exercise”. In 2011 I was recruited by Beachbody LLC to create and manage a national certification program for the then very popular in-home fitness program P90X. I was with Beachbody for two years and traveled the country meeting gym owners, fitness professionals, and P90X enthusiasts as we certified over 1500 people in less than a year. In 2013 I went back to the gym business full time and in 2014 rebranded my business to strictly personal training and coaching. Changed the company to Genesis Performance. Moved to a smaller location which I work out of now. My resume is on the website along with my Mission Statement in the “Letter from the CEO “on the site. A year ago, I created a personal vitality brand called Larry Greene Lifestyle (larrygreenelifestyle.com). This blog format website highlights my personal passions for health and vitality.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There is SO much content on the internet. People are overwhelmed with information, most of which conflicts with what “the other guy” said. So, confusion, uncertainty, too much conflicting info create hesitation for people to engage with someone or a company. Many people are not willing to make the investment in themselves. They want the quick fix, the most recent fad. Once I can truly connect with a potential client, I am able to demonstrate value quickly. iIt’s getting to that point that is often difficult. So, the answer is yes and no. Smooth road in that my team and I have helped hundreds of people over the years to find themselves in mind, body, and spirit. Not so smooth in my ability to reach more people. I want to help thousands, not hundreds. It’s the old “who you know not what you know” scenario. Connecting with the right people who believe in what I believe and want to join my mission has been challenging.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Genesis Performance story. Tell us more about the business.
At the core of the Genesis brand is a comprehensive, integrated approach to overall health and vitality. Our team approach is what sets us apart. Fully integrated approach to improving eating strategies, sleep quality, life balance, mobility, strength, and optimizing vitamin/mineral/hormonal balances. We have a comprehensive intake form looking at goals, history, and going deep into the weeds on behaviors. We assign a health coach and performance coach to help our clients find the optimal mindset and strategies for implementing the necessary changes. Our nutrition/dietician team creates a customized eating strategy based on goals and life limitations. We address chronic pain, postural deviations, and limited mobility with our physical therapist and personal trainer teams. We do this in person AND virtually as needed. Most proud of my team, our process both front end and back end, and the amazing results we have helped hundreds of people achieve. Our goal is to improve the quantity and quality of life. What sets us apart? one stop shop. We address every aspect of life necessary to create sustainable changes in behavior and life vitality.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck is a function of persistence and timing. Sometimes the best efforts and intentions are affected by external events outside of one’s control. I have had “bad” luck in my prior real estate ventures. Partners with the wrong person. Started a project and then the economy took a dump. In fitness, my journey has moved forward as it was supposed to. I do believe that we have a “path” that we follow. Lessons we must learn. pains and losses, we must suffer. All so we can grow as a person and keep moving forward. To me, life and business are one in the same. I do not separate the personal self from the business self. I am ME whether at home, with family, or at work. If we are lucky, and I am, we can live our life and work in our passion so each day we are living in our own truth.
