Meet LaRon Young of Noral Collections in Inglewood

Today we’d like to introduce you to LaRon Young.

LaRon, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started my business in 2005. My business name went from Noral Clothing to Noral Collections. I wanted my business name to be personal, a part of me. I tried to come up with different names using the letters of my name and I ended up with Noral. My name spelled backwards. The idea for my logo came from a Pontiac Firebrid I love cars and I redesigned that symbol. I like the idea of wings. I chose wings because wings represent protection, a higher being, it’s a positive symbol and I wanted it to be recognizable. That’s when Noral Clothing began. I designed graphic tees, hoodies, and hats. I sold them at events and thru my website as well. I did that for some time and one day, I noticed different celebrities wearing beaded bracelets.

I would see them in magazines, on TV, and social media. I went to several stores looking to purchase one and I could not find a store that had any. What I did find was a bead shop in DTLA that would sell me the beads and charge me to show me how to make a bracelet. The catch was, they could only show me one time, one time only, and I could take as long as I wanted. I paid for the class and I purchased some beads and I started designing my own beaded bracelets. After that, I made the name change from Noral Clothing to Noral Collections. Noral Collections was better suited for my business because It gave me room for growth, room for me to branch out and add more to my brand than just clothing.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I started my business, I started with no money. I financed my business with my business. The money I made went back into my business.

Noral Collections – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I specialize in handmade accessories. I’m most proud of that I’ve been in business since 2005 and I haven’t given up. Especially being a male in a predominantly woman business. (jewelry) Which is what sets me apart from other jewelry businesses

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment of my career is when I started Noral Collections, within the first six months, I was in four stores. Also, when I did my third year at Pool and gained the most wholesale orders and did a demonstration of how I create and make my bracelets.
