Today we’d like to introduce you to Lacey Welker.
Lacey, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have been working with children, infants, and families for over 15 years. Immediately following graduation from CSU, Chico in 2005 with a Bachelors degree in music and minor in Psychology, I moved to Los Angeles where I began working as a behavior therapist for children. I specialized in early behavior intervention for children with Autism incorporating several different theoretical approaches. Particularly, I implemented discrete trial training, applied behavior analysis, various sensory strategies, and child-centered/play-based techniques to assist my clients in overcoming their behavioral challenges.
In 2007, I continued to hone my specialized skills in child and infant behavior by performing freelance work, focusing on toddlers and infants in an intimate family setting. Since then, I have assisted multiple families with various activities, including, introduction of a new baby into the home and adjusting to life with an infant, and providing guidance regarding social skills, behavior education, academics, development, sleep training & education, and other child-care related matters. I completed my training and certification as a Newborn Specialist through the International Newborn Care Specialist Association.
My growing passion to assist parents and children through these critical life transitions is constantly evolving. It was after walking both my sister and my best friend through every stage of childbirth that I decided to become a Doula. I studied with the notable school of Bini Birth Los Angeles and have completed my doula certification with DONA International.
I also specialize in child and Infant sleep. I completed my training and certification through The International Maternity and Parenting Institute. I help families all over the country through my expertise in sleep education, providing families with healthy sleep and solving their sleep issues.
In 2012, I established LA Baby Doula by bringing all my services into one company, providing multiple families with support in all areas of prenatal and postpartum care. I have carefully hired a team of trained experts and continue to grow and expand this intimate, educational company.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I’d be interested to meet a business owner who claims it’s been a smooth road! I learn something new every day. I learn from each struggle, and determine what I need to change in order to keep moving forward, and maintain momentum. I work primarily with pregnancy, labor & delivery, postpartum, and sleep deprivation. Each being very vulnerable stages in life where it’s in my hands to help support, educate and make a difference in these families lives. So yes, of course there have been struggles and hurdles to jump over, which have only made me better at what I do.
LA Baby Doula – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a birth doula. I am a Newborn Specialist. I am a Sleep Consultant. LA Baby Doula provides families with birth support and postpartum services. I specialize in sleep. I help families all over the country with sleep issues ranging from infants up to five years old. I am “known” for getting an entire household family sleeping again after months or even years of sleep deprivation. I am proud to be that someone who “saved your marriage” because ONE more night without sleep was going to through you over the edge. Parents come to me when they feel they have hit rock bottom.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is looking at the smile on a mother’s face when she first holds her newborn, and says she couldn’t have done it without me. Success is getting another baby sleeping through the night, or watching a proud father demonstrate a perfect swaddle. Success is hearing from moms for years and watching their babies grow. Success is having a waiting list, as I carefully schedule every person who makes that important call to me. Success, to me, is making a difference in as many lives as I possibly can.
