Meet Lacee Norris of Lacee Alexandra

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lacee Norris.

Hi Lacee, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born and raised in Long Beach, California into a very creative family. Both my mom and my dad owned their own businesses and so working for myself was always something I knew I eventually wanted to do. My grandmother was an artist and I spent many of my formative years in her watercolor studio learning from her. I don’t remember a time in my life that I wasn’t doing something art related, whether that be going to art museums, painting or sculpting. When I graduated high school I knew I wanted to do something in the art world, so I chose to go to Cal State Long Beach, which has a really great art program. Originally I was interested in furniture or lighting design but on a whim, I took a Metalsmithing class and fell in love with the entire process. After earning a Bachelor of Fine Art in Metalsmithing and Design, I worked for a few designers around LA learning the business before eventually creating my namesake line Lacee Alexandra around 2014.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I don’t believe anyone that goes into business for themselves would say it’s smooth sailing all the time. Every day is a learning process and as a business owner, you wear a lot of different hats. Some days you are the accountant, others the marketer, photographer, etc. So much of my business and what I do is not even spent in my studio. There’s a lot that happens behind the scenes in a creative business. It’s not all just creating jewelry all day, it’s definitely a balance, but I’m so fortunate to be able to do what I love.

We’ve been impressed with Lacee Alexandra, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
In the past few years, I started getting into fine jewelry, I saw there was a bit of a gap in the fine jewelry market of accessible/affordable pieces. I really do believe that you don’t have to spend a fortune to have a nicely made piece of jewelry that will last generations. I strive to create organic inspired designs with price points that allow a lot of people to enjoy my work. I have many rings that make great engagement rings in solid gold with stones that start at under $1k, which isn’t always easy to find. I love being able to create these pieces for all. Whether you’re celebrating a special birthday, a life milestone such as a marriage or an anniversary or choosing to commemorate an accomplishment for yourself, I have a piece that can help you mark these special moments.

What’s next?
I am looking forward to continuing to grow Lacee Alexandra. I’ve been working with various retail partners across the country. It is really exciting to see my work in so many new places. I just recently launched a capsule collection of solitaires that I am super stoked about. I’m always creating new work — I have so many design ideas, it’s just about finding the time to bring them into fruition. Stay tuned, there’s lots in store for Lacee Alexandra!
