Today we’d like to introduce you to La Niecia’ Vicknair.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Growing up I’ve always been involved in athletic activities, such as gymnastics, dance, basketball, competitive cheer, stepping and so much more. After graduating from Howard University, I started to dibble and dabble with different jobs until I realized I had a bigger purpose which was to help my family who struggles with obesity. Growing up in a Creole family, our greatest memories were made in the kitchen but due to our battle with obesity, I wanted to figure out a way to help and teach them how to feel comfortable in having a healthier lifestyle. Within the same year that I became a personal trainer, I lost my father to a heart attack and morbid obesity. Losing my father motivated me to create a safe space to educate my family and community and that’s when I decided to use my resources to open Thrive Health Lab.
Has it been a smooth road?
Being an entrepreneur is never smooth sailing. In the beginning, one of our biggest challenges was getting our community to VALUE their health and understand the importance of taking care of themselves. We would often get questions regarding our pricing and they would compare us to the bigger gyms. Although we are not a big gym, we are a boutique fitness studio that invests in our clients and that is what sets us apart.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Thrive Health Lab is a class-based, boutique fitness studio specializing in small group training and holistic approaches to everything fitness such as mental, physical, and sometimes financial health. Apart from our classes, we host a variety of developmental workshops, community events, and aim to educate the community on proper training through corrective exercise. Essentially, we meet you where you are. There is a place for everyone, and most importantly, there is a community supporting your goals along the way. Our successes come in all shapes, sizes, nationalities, and gender. Aside from the typical weight loss, muscle gain results we provide at our gym. The true success has been being able to provide a safe space for our community to thrive with one another, support each other, and helping to change mindsets around self-love, food, and self-care. What sets Thrive apart is that WE CARE, the instructors, myself, and even other clients we want you to thrive physically, financially, mentally spiritually, we create a community.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes, I think Los Angeles is a great city for a business like Thrive Health Lab. With Los Angeles being the healthy conscious state, it makes it easier for people to find a gym home. However, in our particular neighborhood, there aren’t many boutique fitness gyms. Our mission at Thrive Health Lab is to Educate, Empower, & Community.
