Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Biane and John Hanson.
Kyle and John, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
John Hanson and I (Kyle Biane) met working for a company called Immediate Music around 2008. John was a composer’s assistant and I was a mixing engineer’s assistant. We hit it off as friends right away and eventually became a production team. We worked on everything from movie trailers to reality TV to full length feature films. After three or four years as a production duo we decided to leave Immediate Music and pursue our own venture, Confidential Music. We released our first batch of songs on December 12 2012. Since then we have been fortunate enough to be part of some amazing advertisement campaigns for films such as Star Wars the Force Awakens, Jurassic World, Interstellar and Captain America. As we find ourselves entering our 8th year of business, we are focused on keeping our passion for quality music and service as high as It was when we opened shop.
Has it been a smooth road?
I think with any artistic pursuit that is mixed with business there will be bumps in the road. There are the inevitable challenges of clients with unclear direction, or last-minute changes that negate days of work. However, John and I have always remained a united front in adverse times and because of that, they rarely, if ever, feel like an actual crisis. We have a saying “It’s not what you are working on, it’s who you are working with”. I think that sums up how we have handled the bumps in the road and flattened them out to be truly non-events.
We’d love to hear more about your music.
Confidential Music is a custom music house and library that specialized in music for motion picture advertising. We have a library of cues (songs) that music supervisors can access to service the varying needs of their projects. On top of that we also do custom work, helping music supervisors, producers, and editors realize their own visions. The company has always tried to retain a service first attitude. Our clients come first and we realize how important a quick quality product is. Confidential Music not only wants to make “good” music but we want to understand our client’s creative dialects and help realize their ideas in the most efficient way possible. Communication is key to this. We try to be more than a name in a rolodex but a creative companion our clients can call upon.
In addition, we have recently released a commercially available album called LightCycle. It is available on all streaming services and a vinyl version of the album can be found at http://www.confidentialmx.com.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes, I think that Los Angeles is main hub for the movie trailer industry. Being here is very useful for the occasional in person meeting. That being said; if you can obtain easy access to Los Angeles via friends, colleagues or family, technology really allows composers, producers, and mixers to make quality music from any corner of the globe.
