Meet Kvr

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kvr.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In the beginning of my mystical journey into the world of music, I began DJing around the young age of 15. When my hands weren’t tied up on the football field, I was DJing parties for friends. As I watched the way the music captivated the souls on the dance floor; I found the next step that brought me here. I found myself sitting on the computer chopping my way through the brush of Fruity Loops. My teen years were spent experimenting with different sounds. Some ideas worked. Some not so much, but I kept mixing different colors on the pallet searching to paint one brighter than the sun. Through my years in school, English was always my favorite class. I loved that I was able to just be me. Being an only child, I’ve always had a wild imagination, so I had a lot of fun writing stories. From finding my love of writing in school, I figured it was best I added songwriting to my arsenal. When I reached the college level, I pursued journalism as a major. As much fun as I had partying, I knew music was what set my heart to flames. I followed the smoke trail and found myself in school for audio engineering. I blaze through there, and that’s what leads us to the next path.

Has it been a smooth road?
After my courses for audio engineering were finished, an opportunity to leave Kentucky to move to California arose. At that time, I was engaged, so this was more than a pickle I was stuck in. Do I stay with the love of my life or leave to pursue the love of my life? Moving to the place I’d dreamed of felt like a once in a lifetime opportunity, so I had to take it. From losing my best friend, I had a lonely transition. A lot of my nights were spent alone, but through my loneliness, I became more comfortable with myself than I had ever been. I started making friends through work, and one of them happened to be a director. I come to him with an idea I wanted to do for a video, so we start booking the location and gathering the things needed for the video. The video was coming out nice, but it will never be released. Not because I didn’t like it, but because we ran out of time and I was already spending money I didn’t have on it. That was my first crack at a video, so I wasn’t thinking of having enough time to set lights, props and to tear it all down. I was only thinking lights, camera, action. From losing my fiancé and videos, I’ve even had half of my face slide off. I had bells palsy for a bit. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what causes it, but stress plays a big role. The road to being an independent artist isn’t easy, but it’s rewarding to look back at all of the hard work you put in.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I specialize in bringing good energy to the world. Kvr stands for Kevin’s Variety Radio. My aim is to create music that will bring us all together under one roof under one frequency, love. I’m known for being an artist who’s not afraid to step outside of the box. You never know what’s next, but you know it’ll be wavy. 🙂 I’m proud that I’m still here chasing my dreams today. I haven’t stopped, and I never will. What sets me apart is that I’m not worried about the others. I’m watering my own grass while appreciating the view. I want to see us all blossom.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
LA is the perfect city to make your dreams come true in. I’ve been here for about 4.5 years, and I’m proud to call it my second home. This city will teach you so many things a textbook couldn’t. I’d recommend someone starting out to come to the city because it’s filled with inspiration. The views, the experience, and all of the artists who live in the area play a big role in where I am today. I’ve come into contact with so many talented artists who’ve helped me take my artistry to another level, so I believe the same could happen for you.
