Meet Kristen R. Harris of The Scribe Tribe Publishing Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen R. Harris.

Kristen, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have always been a writer. As a little girl, I used to write poems, short stories and even created my own greeting cards. My work was celebrated, and I received recognition and awards from various sources. As I grew older, I continued pursuing my passion for writing with the launch of a blog that reached global readership. The EmpowerMoments blog was run by a team of women who wrote to inspire and encourage other women.

I often said that I would write a book one day. Well, that one day came in 2016 when I completed my first project, “EmpowerMoments for the Everyday Mom” as an extension of the blog. Once I knew that I had what it took to write and publish a book, I authored and co-authored an additional five more books over the span of two years.

In 2017, after realizing that I had the secret sauce, I began teaching online courses on writing and publishing books to other aspiring authors. Traveling the country, I freely shared all of the information, tips and tricks that I had garnered on my writing journey.

Two years later, I took a faith leap and started The Scribe Tribe Publishing Group, an independent publishing firm. We help our authors maintain creative control while realizing their dreams of publishing their first book. Nothing is more gratifying than seeing the sense of accomplishment on their faces when that book first touches their hands. It is my greatest delight to use the gifts that I have to help other people tap into theirs.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This journey certainly has not come without its own set of challenges. One of the main challenges was just adapting to my purpose. Even though I have been writing all of my life, I never imagined that it would become my full-time job. So, I have wasted countless hours trying to pursue other things that were not my calling. I always ended back at writing.

Another struggle came when I first started entertaining the idea of launching a publishing company. I knew someone who had another successful publishing house and I reached out for guidance and support as I started my own. However, I was met with negativity and resistance. She was not forthcoming with information and even offered words of discouragement on why I should not pursue my goals. I am grateful that I was resilient and relentless enough to press forward. That situation taught me how I don’t want to act when others are interested in doing what I do. There is more than enough room for us all to win.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Scribe Tribe Publishing Group – what should we know?
The Scribe Tribe Publishing Group is an independent, full-service writing and publishing firm. We have a team of professional writers, editors, designers, marketers and more who take our authors from paper to published. We are dedicated to helping authors bring their published books to life. We provide an outlet for authors who are exhausted with saying, “One day I am going to write a book.” We handle every book project with the utmost love and care because we are confident that someone needs to read the story that is being written.

I am most proud of the fact that we have proven that we can work with ANY author. We have published authors as young as second graders. We also have an incarcerated author whose book we helped to publish. The Scribe Tribe Publishing Group truly believes that everyone has a story to share; many just need help getting it out. Some just need someone to write it for them, so we offer ghostwriting services as well.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Authenticity is the main ingredient to my success. Clients connect with me because I am real and relatable. I don’t shy away from sharing my own struggles and how I overcame them. Being authentically and unapologetically me has opened more doors for my business than anything else.
