Meet Koncept of Unlock Your STyle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Koncept.

Hi Koncept, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started dancing in 2005, in my garage and in the school quad. After watching a dance show in Sacramento, performed by the “Boogie Monstarz” I then auditioned for a choreography crew called “Press Play.” A couple of years after that, I then was introduced to KRUMP. I left Press Play and started working on myself as a battler and freestyler. Fast forward to 2014, after developing my own style in dance and theories, I started created a freestyle training program/workshop called “Unlock Your Style.” A training program consisting of 5 main phases,
I. Foundation and Technique
II. Concepts
III. Character work and Situational Training
IV. Battle Tactics and Cypher Ettiquette
V. Application

With these 5 Phases, I started to build my brand in dance training.

Early 2020, I rebranded Unlock Your Style and started with weekly classes / Sessions until the pandemic started.

I then had the decision to either quit or figure out how I can grow my brand virtually. I decided in May of 2020 to start a Patreon monthly memberships, to record tutorials, and create content for another rebranded and evolved version of “Unlock Your Style.”

More than a year later, I have created a bigger online presence, multiple video series, including one that has turned into an official card game, Choose Your Concept©.

Now, as an official business and brand. I continue to create content, workshops/tutorials, merchandise and expand the official card game with my team to consistently evolve “Unlock Your Style” to its highest potential.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The struggle of having an in-person dance training program during a pandemic was the hardest struggle. How can you teach or dance with people if we all have to stay at home? As we remained to stay safe, me and my team of 4 at the time had countless meetings on what was the best way to go. We came to the conclusion of staying safe with the same 4-6 people with COVID tests/masks, find a secluded park, and film as much as we could per week. From what will work to what will not work. We tested and executed every possibility for the brand.

One of the hardest things I have experienced was my daughter was born February of 2020. So during all of this trial and error I was also taking care of my daughter. I honestly could not have done it without my partner, Kaela, she was my rock through all of this and still encouraged me to keep pushing with “Unlock Your Style.”

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Unlock Your Style is a company founded on the principle of giving individuals tools to become the best version of themselves. We intend to push the limits of ours and your creativity and to create like we have never before. Instead of judgment and ego, we encourage honesty and love; for ourselves, others, and the art we share. We do not color inside the lines unless we choose to.

We specialize in creative training, creating an honest and transparent environment to dancers/creatives. Unlock Your Style creates digital content, dance events / workshops / sessions, and created a card game called Choose Your Concept©.

Choose Your Concept© is a card game that challenges creatives to push outside of their box. The game creates a unique scenario for artists of any genre and to interpret and navigate using their personal art.

We offer monthly dance training memberships, online content, merchandise along with our card game.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
CLARITY.

“The reason most people never reach their goals is that they don’t define them or ever seriously consider them as believable or achievable. Winners can tell you where they are going, what they plan to do along the way, and who will be sharing the adventure with them.”

Without clarity, you have no destination to go to. I sat down with my team for several months just to make sure we know EXACTLY where this business is heading. Yes, we made a lot of changes to what we were doing, but we always knew where everything was heading towards. From small goals to massive end goals, we always made it clear first of what we wanted.
