Meet Kirsten Potenza of POUND® – ROCKOUT. WORKOUT.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kirsten Potenza.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Kirsten. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have had an entrepreneurial spirit from a very young age. When I was seven, I opened a store in my backyard called the forget-me-not-shop. I made my own business cards and sold hand-made items to anyone who would visit. I knew then that creating would always be a very large part of my life.

In my 20’s and during my time at UCLA, I was on their Division 1 rowing team. Like many athletes, I loved fitness, but also the group environment that motivated the entire team. If you’ve lived in this kind of support system, you understand how great it is. When I left this realm, I missed everything about that support system.

The idea of POUND® was born out of my love for movement and music but also my passion for people. We live in a world that consistently drives us apart and the group fitness space is one of the last places where we get together and connect. Creating POUND® was the ultimate fusion of the magic that happens when you combine movement, music, inclusivity, and real human connection.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Ask any business owner and they’ll tell you the same. I’m not sure if anything about owning a business is smooth. A friend of mine said to me the other day, “another level, another devil”. As your company and team grow, you are introduced to new hurdles and struggles. There are obstacles that show up on a daily basis. The only thing you can really depend on is change and once you become comfortable with that, everything becomes a whole lot easier – and more fun!

POUND® – ROCKOUT. WORKOUT. – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
POUND® is a fitness & lifestyle brand based in Los Angeles, CA.

The workout combines cardio, Pilates, isometric movements and plyometrics with constant simulated drumming – all too loud, kick-ass music. An energizing, infectious, sweat-dripping workout, each strike of the Ripstix releases primal aggression as well as a neuromuscular reward of mixing sound and movement. It allows you to truly become the music.

The program is taught by over 25,000 instructors in over 100 countries to hundreds of thousands of participants every week.

As a brand, we aim to inspire, motivate, and change both minds and bodies through alternative fitness. We turn workouts into jam sessions and give people an outlet to channel their inner rockstar.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
One moment that comes to the top of mind is back in 2018 where myself and the team led the largest POUND® class to over 3,000 women at the Women’s Health + Adidas’ Fit Night Out event in South Africa. Being halfway around the world with so many women, moving together at twilight was an unforgettable experience. We like to say, ‘One beat, heard around the world’ and that night really embodied that.
