Meet Kion Williams in Van Nuys & Sherman Oaks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kion Williams.

Kion, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I didn’t start making music seriously until I was out of high school. Before that, I was just DJing parties and writing little rhymes and verses for fun. While I was DJing one time, I realized that I had a good ear for which songs would go together and why, so it made me think about producing music. I told my family and they help invest in getting me some equipment. October 13th, 2013 was the day I made my first beat! I fell in love with it so I put DJ gear down and stopped fooling around with writing music just to focus on learning how to make beats up until 2017. That’s where I picked up the pen again and started seriously writing songs to my beats! Now I’m producing projects for artists and finishing up my first project written and produced all by me!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I first started, I was absolutely terrible at producing and writing. My idols would tell me how much my stuff sucked and now looking at it, it was great to have that, but at that time I didn’t understand why and that ate me up! I didn’t know any theory yet I wanted to produce, I didn’t know how to put down my own ideas, but I had all the programs. It felt like I wasn’t getting any better at certain points too! Also, I wanted this on such a different level that it was hard for me to work with others because my drive was so much ahead of theirs that I was just being held back. On top of that all throughout this process, there’s been records stolen of mine and claimed by people that did nothing on them. It felt like I could do right at one point, but all of these losses built me back up!

What else should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a music producer before anything! If I don’t know how to do anything else, I know how to put a WHOLE record together. That’s what people know me for most. But soon people will be able to see the total artist I’ve become. I’m most proud at the fact that I never enabled myself to wait for what I wanted. If I needed a beat I could do it. If I needed a verse or hook I could bring it. If an artist needs vocal direction I can bring it. If there’s no one to record the record I can! That’s what sets me apart from others too, because when people come to me to do music they know I’m a one-stop-shop! You can get everything you need here!

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I’m very proud of every moment I’ve made it thru to get up to this point, but I’d have to say the most fulfilling moment was working with aftermath records! It’s always been my favorite record label since I was a kid! Before I even knew I wanted to do music I know what that “A” logo stood for! So being able to work, learn, and be apart of the vibe is unlike any experience I’ve ever had in music.
