Today we’d like to introduce you to King Midwest.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a 26 years old Music Artist who was born in Chicago, IL on November 9th. I grew up moving a lot due to having divorced parents. Since I was always on the move, I don’t really have a single “hometown” like most people which is where part of my name came from due to living in many different communities across the Midwest. I also received a lot of love and support from Dallas, TX (a second home to me). I started writing and recording music at age 13, a year later I started doing live shows. My journey has been nowhere near easy.
After high school and missing out on a walk on basketball scholarship due to injury, I moved to Las Vegas to further my music career where I met with former YMCMB artist “Lil Chuckee” and we collaborated on the song “Boss Shit” feat my producer KayO. After failing to market the song properly and working with multi-platinum producer “Andy Whitmore” I learned a lot about myself and my career. I learned the business of the industry. You see, I already had the skills because I engineer, master, write and shoot videos for all my own music as well as produced some tracks. In 2015 as my career was growing and my name was becoming more well known, I suffered from both the loss of my father to the battle of cancer and my close cousin (rapper lil mone) who was murdered in Birmingham AL. In 2016 and 2017, I performed at SXSW on the same stage as some mainstream favorites such as “Da Baby”. I had my first daughter in 2018 who I’m now raising by myself as I still push my music career and grow our independent label into a complete entertainment Mecca. Outside of the music, we work with video production as well as we have our own clothing line.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, I mean looking back at it, it seems that way now, but understanding the strength, it took to overcome everything I’ve been through I know it was nothing close to easy, I’m blessed and very grateful. People don’t make it out of situations I’ve been in. Not only was I dealing with the loss of many of my loved ones but I was facing three felony convictions with 33 years of federal time max per charge. I was looking at almost 100 years, a life sentence of you will, for a federal fraud charge in Alabama for allegedly hacking into a bank. My best friend and I was homeless for months and people who we thought was in our corner turned their backs on us. Nothing has ever been given to me or made easy.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I King Midwest am a multi-talented music artist. The business I run is a multi-media production company. We specialize in audio and video production however, we also have departments that work with photography, content creation, clothing line, graphic design, and esports,
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Mane Shout out Davee Tucker!!
That’s my best friend, my brother, we been through It all together he’s the only person who ain’t gotta ask for nothing if I got it he got it and it goes both ways. The definition of true loyalty. We both grew up with an estranged father son relationship so we were that brother figure to each other. We still help guide each other through life as men should. We really push each other and hold each other accountable for mistakes. If only one of us was broke, you wouldn’t be able to tell who it was. Everybody eats at this table. It’s all love.
