Meet Kimberly Walker of The Vanity Project in San Luis Obispo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Walker.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Kimberly. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I moved from West Hollywood to San Luis Obispo and quickly fell in love with wine country and red wine. I noticed when drinking it my teeth turned purple, as did most others. I searched for a solution and couldn’t find anything so spent the next year working with a sommelier and dentist to create Wine Wipes.

The company launched Wine Wipes in 2008 as a wine accessory and was placed in national stores such as Total Wine & More, Cost Plus and many wine retailers and wineries.

In 2016, the company rebranded to a beauty company focusing on creating on-the-go beauty solutions for modern women. We now have a small portfolio of other products such as Pearly Wipes, Biddettes, and Clean Slate. We will be and launching two new products this summer- Flygirl- a kit of essential beauty wipes for women on the fly, and a line of CBD and hyaluronic acid sheet masks.

I divide my time between San Luis Obispo and NYC working with large retailers like Target, Urban Outfitters, CVS, and Walgreens, continuing to create and market our product line to women on-the-go.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t been a smooth road but it’s been enjoyable and fulfilling. The hardships and difficulties ultimately result in better business practices. I’ve learned a lot more from failures than successes.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Vanity Project story. Tell us more about the business.
The Vanity Project creates beauty wipes for modern women. Freshening up used to mean sitting down in front of a mirror and primping, now it means a quick swipe, spray or glance in the mirror, then back at it. Our products are made in California, by women, for women.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I’ve never really been a lucky or unlucky person. I just try to focus on the work, put the time and dedication in and make sure at the end of the day, I go to sleep feeling good about what I’ve spent my time doing. I concentrate on base hits instead of home runs.

I do like blackjack though and would love to have some luck there.
