Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Kottwitz.
Kimberly, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Well, I am originally from Dallas, Texas where I developed a passion for the entertainment industry at an early age. I am a classically trained actor who moved to Los Angeles because I knew that I had to be at the epicenter of the industry. I received my BA from UCLA’s School of Theater, Film and Television. I have always loved theater. During college and immediately upon graduation, I worked for numerous casting directors and production companies such as London/Stroud Casting, Michael Donovan Casting, and Echo Lake Productions. I realized that I had a keen ability to identify talent and began my journey as a Talent Manager at Citizen Skull Productions. At CSP I developed strong relationships with a network of actors, casting directors, producers and writers. I joined Brave Artists Management at its inception because of the exciting opportunity to work with the dynamic BAM team.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing is ever easy, and in the entertainment industry there is never a linear path to success. Upon graduation I was lost. All of a sudden you have this amazing degree and the question is… NOW WHAT? It took several years of auditioning for me to realize that my life was taking a left, which is always scary. While working in casting, production, and management, I realized I had an incredible ability to connect people through my network of brilliant artists that I have known for years. For a girl from Dallas, Texas I have had the opportunity to get to know so many talented people. I am exactly where I am meant to be. Acting lead me to management, and for that I am so grateful.
Brave Artists Management – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Talking about left turns, I had the opportunity to get to know Mike Gillespie (owner of BAM). Mike is the most inspiring, charismatic, knowledgeable, energetic person I know. When I met him, I knew he was the mentor I needed for this side of the industry. Brave Artists Management is a full service talent management firm, that represents well-known actors. As a talent manager it is my job to empower artists and build their career. What I love about my job is that each day is different than the next. My clients and I are faced with different challenges, problem solving, and the shared love of the entertainment industry. Making peoples dreams a reality is definitely the best part of the job.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My mom is from New Orleans, and my favorite memory growing up is going to the snowball stand in the blistering heat. I crave them in LA every day!!!!!!!
