As an immigrant to the U.S. from Trinidad & Tobago, I’ve always been ambitious. My family came to this country for better opportunities, and the unspoken expectation was for me to seek out and capitalize on opportunities. As a result, I went on to earn my Bachelor of Science in Neurobiology, Physiology & Behavior from UC Davis to pursue my initial goal of attending medical school. Later I obtained a Master’s in Public Health with an emphasis in Health Policy and Management from UCLA. At the height of my career, I opened and managed two multi-specialty clinics in Beverly Hills for UCLA Health with significant staff and physician oversight. However, after a successful career in health care (10+ years) at world-renowned organizations and having my second child, my husband and I decided that I would stay at home to raise them.
I’ve always had entrepreneurial ambitions. However, the timing never seemed right. Either I was in school, building my career, or starting a family. But staying home finally gave me the time to follow my dreams!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been easy, but entreprenuership has been a cycle of research, learn and implement. In the beginning, I didn’t know which business to start first. But as I brainstormed ideas and researched different ventures, I decided on the one that required little capital upfront: resume writing. It’s funny because I never knew resume writing was a service provided even though I have written resumes for many years for family and friends. So after leaving my role as a Health Care Administrator for the #1 ranked health system in Los Angeles and California, I started my business: Blue Pen Resumes. A resume writing services that helps health care job seekers accelerate their careers and achieve professional and personal growth.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Blue Pen Resumes story. Tell us more about the business.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe anything happens by luck but by divine direction. The timing of me deciding to stay home with my kids was divine in that it allowed me to realize my entrepreniual prowess and time to establish my business during a time of “normalcy” as opposed to the current climate. Had I decided one year later who knows if I would have been able to build a business in such uncertainty and world-wide panic. So without a doubt, divine direction has and continues to play a meaningful role in my life and business.
