Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Belcher.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kimberly. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I fell in love with words before I could even say most of them correctly. Books, poetry, music. I lived for words and saw the power that they possessed. As I grew older, I discovered the magic in writing & storytelling and made the decision early in life to turn my passion into a career. My only problem, not having the slightest idea of how to do so.
Because of this lack of knowledge, I spent the majority of my twenties struggling to find my niche as an experienced failure after failure in my ventures. In 2017, just after my 28th birthday, I had become deeply depressed by my lack of progress and had hit my version of rock bottom. As that year went on, I turned to back writing in an attempt to find my way out of that dark place. I found comfort in sharing my pieces with other creatives and began healing as I regained my confidence in my work. By the winter of 2017, I was back to my usual self and more determined than ever to succeed when an idea came to mind; provide a forum for young, creative, and innovative minds like myself to come together and help each other build as they pursue their personal goals. In this thought is where the YFS Lifestyle Group was created.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
“I’m not sure if this will work.” I heard this many times as I pushed to get YFS Lifestyle Group started. Unfortunately, it was from some of my closest friends. It is hard getting others to see your vision, but even harder to accept that not everyone will support your dreams. Lack of support from your friends and family can be severely discouraging, which can either make you quit or fuel you to try harder. Although I chose the latter, this lack of support was a reoccurring theme between 2017 and 2019.
YFS Lifestyle Group – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
YFS Lifestyle Group is a collection of writers, artists, entrepreneurs, and all-around creatives who have come together with one goal in mind, a prosperous millennial generation and wealth for generations to come. The collective includes many independent business owners and individuals, however our greatest achievements have come in the form of the VIISIONS open mic series founded by JMBM the poet; the Power Up LA Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping youth in underprivileged areas reach their full potential through various enrichment programs; and YFS Life, a public relations agency that offers free or low cost PR services to the Los Angeles area. Unlike other companies, no one entity owns another, we are all partners who share the understanding that we all win together. A stand out moment for YFS Lifestyle Group was being the production team behind local artist Ashbash tha Rapper’s first concert which sold out the famous Belasco Theater in Downtown LA.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I feel that success is being able to not only achieve your personal goals but help others achieve theirs as well.
