Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Shapira.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have been on this incredible journey through the nutrition world for 20 plus years. In this time, I have worked in Hospitals, Gastroenterologists offices, taught Nutrition at the college level, and all along having the most amazing private practice. I have learned so much from my clients, and I appreciate each and everyone because they have changed me in one way or another. I had grown and sought out answers when I didn’t have them.
I have worked alongside many teachers from many different backgrounds: therapists, others dietitians, doctors, accupuntists, cranial sacral therapists, other healers, Mindful meditation teachers, and trainers! Some I have even been clients with- seeking, always seeking? Most of what I have learned I have experienced either in myself or with a client overcoming a hurdle. I have been called a “hurdle jumper.” I was once told that I can only teach because I have overcome and I was once told you should only learn from those who have been there.
Somewhere through the years I started seeing the disordered eating habits of my clients and in people either as a product of how they were raised or just how society expects us to think and act. I started becoming aware of my own truths, and that’s when the real magic starts to seep in and change your life. I wanted to find a way to get this conversation started where we accept and embrace our habits –lean into the mess of being so human and so similar.
I loved learning about nutrition and food- but I was never passionate about it. Not because I don’t love to eat but because I saw food and nutrition as the magic pill. I would always wonder why are people afraid of food, don’t they see the power it has? Food is a drug, and there is a line between too much being bad and too little not being enough. The key is moderation- so why wasn’t everyone clued into this!
So I had to dig and seek- and I found Neuroscience, Meditation, Quantum Physics, and Spiritual Psychology- and through the years I have taught whoever will listen about triggers, and pleasure-seeking mind-sets, and hiding behind food, drugs, alcohol and other addictions when they become vulnerable. I call this the Kim Shapira Method.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Getting here has been a really fun ride for me. I have gotten to help people take back their health and overcome food struggles for over 20 years. I’ve gotten to explore many different types of modalities in treating emotions.
My method created itself after years of witnessing my clients Struggle with diet and weight maintenance. Mostly because I felt like a failure if my clients would gain any weight back. If there were any struggles along the way, they just helped make me a better Dietitian.
We’d love to hear more about your practice.
I have a private practice in nutrition, and I specialize in helping people fix their relationship with food while losing weight at the same time. I also have a free online 52-week challenge to take back your health; it’s on my Facebook page.
Kim Shapira M.S., R.D. And it’s there to help inspire anyone looking for a little extra inspiration. I often refer to our first appointment as Kindergarten: and then I can help my clients progress through the grades to figuring out what’s the best food for them and their health…
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
My success comes when my clients have ah-ha moments or when they have reached their goal weight! I especially love when they show up three months later and are still the same way that’s my most proud moment!
