Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim McCarty.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I was born in Los Angeles but our family was relocated to a small town in Switzerland when I was 5 years old. I did not return to LA until the 11th grade. During those years since outside entertainment was limited to my sisters and I would draw and paint for hours.
Please tell us about your art.
I have lived and worked in Malibu forever. Have survived mudslides and fires. Rebuilt my home and studio. My artwork is an attempt to invoke that experience. Working rapidly with wet on wet watercolor on paper. I try to control that which is uncontrollable and express the ambivalence and fragility of the life and experience.
What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
The biggest challenge is the oversupply of art fairs globally which makes it hard for the middle and small galleries to be to stay in business. On the other hand, there are so many artists everywhere that there is something for everyone.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
Morgan Lehman Gallery in New York City represents my work. Currently, I’m in a show Commes Vous Voulez at the Praz Delavallade Gallery in Los Angeles. My work is in the collections of the Hammer Museum LA and Museum of Modern Art NYC.
