Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Gingras.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Sure! It would be my pleasure.
I am a French Canadian professional dancer who, after feeling very fulfilled with my career back in Montreal, decided to make the big move to Los Angeles and start all over again at the age of 26. Although I was very happy back home, I wanted more for myself and my career, and I had the specific dream of touring the world with Beyoncé.
Today, after a rollercoaster of experiences and emotions, I’m very happy and grateful to say that I have accomplished just that: I toured the world (twice) with Beyoncé. I’ve also had the opportunity to work with other musical icons such as Jennifer Lopez, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, Meghan Trainor, Nick Jonas, and Ariana Grande to name a few.
Besides dancing and performing, I have a big passion for teaching the upcoming generation of dancers. I know that it took more than just talent to get to where I am today, and I have decided to make it my mission to share those valuable lessons and tools with the world. In 2016, my friend and I co-founded a company named You Got This, Girl! that embodies our values and creates community and empowerment. I no longer direct this company, but I’m still a guest teacher on it and I’m extremely proud of what it represents. I have ventured off on my own and I’ve been putting more energy into teaching master classes around Canada, the United States, and eventually around the world. I am truly passionate about bringing full awareness to the power of living a LOVEFUL, GRATEFUL and JOYFUL life all while going after our wildest dreams.
Please tell us about your art.
I am a dancer, performer, teacher, and judge. I love to dance and can’t picture my life without music! I live for the stage, and I thrive from teaching, sharing, and connecting with my students. I believe movement is a great way to express yourself and touch a lot of people in so many ways. It is also such great therapy for yourself and the audience. Through dance, I have built my confidence and have found a part of my voice. I love encouraging others to do the same. We are all unique, we all have a story to tell. It’s time we own that story and share it with others, in whatever art form this may be.
We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
I unfortunately (but fortunately) do not feel that way at all. I am surrounded by so many artists, and we love to support one another with any and all projects or situation we may be going through. I can’t stress it enough: I believe it’s a game-changer to carefully pick who you surround yourself with and it’s more than ok to be picky with who is a part of your circle of friends. Surround yourself with like-minded individuals that will truly champion you, believe in you, be honest with you, and love you hard. It makes all the difference. Being an artist is a very hard and unstable career path to take. Make sure you feel fulfilled and supported in other areas of your life. Always reminder: Love yourself hard.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
The best way to connect with me would be on my Instagram at the moment. I like interacting with everyone and answering any question some may have. I also enjoy supporting events or fundraisers that bring the community together so let me know what you are all up to!
I also have a website: kimgingras.com where people can find out a little more about myself and watch a few videos of my work. I can always be reached via email for studios and other companies/brands that may be interested in my services.
