Meet Kevin Meehan of Kali in Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Meehan.

Chef Kevin, an NY native, is a lifelong student/lover of food. After completing culinary school, he went to work under the finest French restaurant in LA in 2000 L’Orangerie with at the time the very young Chef Ludo. After several years he went on to work at some of the top French restaurants in the city.

In 2016, Chefs dream of opening his own restaurant came true, Kali was born. With much opening accolades and positive reviews, Kali was a hit. The focus is on local ingredients in a casual setting, think Michelin level food and service, without the pretension.

Chef Kevin was also very blessed to have twin daughters at the same time as the opening of the restaurant, so I’m sure you can imagine he is a busy man

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The restaurant biz is brutal. The competition is always growing and in a city such as LA its hard to stay relevant. After three years the Chef is working harder than ever to keep things afloat and maintain a positive work environment.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
The chefs biggest strength is his sourcing of local product from the best markets, farmers, ranch, orchard, etc.. He visits the market twice a week since 2000 and has formed some great relationships with the local farmers. This attention to sourcing enables him to provide his guests with the finest produce at any given season.

What were you like growing up?
Chef would regard himself as a kind child that always had an interest in cooking and visual arts
