Meet Kevin Maher

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Maher.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Kevin. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born in Hollywood, CA and raised in West Covina, CA. I went to private school my entire life where academics were the most important goal. Growing up, I always participated in school plays, talent shows and anything else I could find to perform. After graduating High School I took a year off and moved to NYC. This is where I found my passion for dance. I started cleaning windows at Broadway Dance Center in exchange for classes. I joined a Hip Hop company, “Culture Shock NY” and a Latin company, “La Santa Luz”. Doors began opening for me as a dancer but I knew that in order to dance behind the best, I had to move back to Los Angeles.

As a dancer, I worked with Missy Elliot, Jennifer Lopez, Eve, Mariah Carey and was even in the movie “You Got Served” I found myself falling in love with teaching and choreography. Slowly I made a name for myself in that realm and here I am. I’ve been blessed to choreograph for Madonna, Justin Bieber, Britney Spears, New Kids on The Block, Ricky Martin, Nicki Minaj, Becky G, Selena Gomez and so many more. I had the opportunity to Creative Direct the New Kids on The Block reunion tour and ten tours later, I’m still doing it. One of my biggest moments was Choreographing and Co-Creative Directing the adult cabaret circus “Blanc De Blanc” at The Sydney Opera House. Ive been fortunate enough to teach around the world at global dance camps, work with numerous K-Pop stars and even live in Taiwan for a few months working on a project. I thank God every day for still loving what I do and being physically able to do it.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Struggles are always a part of the journey and will always continue to be. It’s really about learning to handle them better and grow from them. I think if there isn’t a struggle, it might be time for you to make some moves.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I work through my agency, MSA but am self-employed. I still have bosses and people to answer too but it changes all the time. I specialize in designing and creating movement. I have a background in Architecture in Design which comes in handy when doing Creative Direction and Choreography. I think that’s what really sets me apart from others. I approach everything in a calm, smart manner. I work fast and bring good energy to everything I do.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck is about 30% of my career. Preparation is 70% I keep my phone on and near me because things pop up so fast in L.A and answering the phone is half the battle. I think when you put goals and dreams out into the universe, they come to you. Not sure if its that’s luck or fate.
