Today we’d like to introduce you to Kerri Kasem
Hi Kerri, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, by my father, Casey Kasem, and my mom, Linda Kasem Naylor. Despite my dad’s fame, he kept us grounded, prioritizing education and values like discipline and kindness. My mom nurtured my creativity—she supported my love for horseback riding by taking me to the barn several days a week, which became a therapeutic outlet, especially after their divorce.
School was challenging for me, but I thrived in the arts. I loved singing, musical theater, and creative expression.
My dad was such a kind-hearted humanitarian and was really passionate about animal rights. He was one of the first people to call himself a vegan when no one really knew what that was! He took a stand against factory farm cruelty and worked hard to pass laws that improved the lives of animals in those situations. I’ve always admired him for that, and it inspired me not just in my career in radio and TV but also in my own animal advocacy and humanitarian work.
My mom was a political fundraiser, so I learned so much from her about the world of politics. When I hosted a political talk show in Las Vegas, I can definitely thank her for giving me a solid understanding of both sides of the political spectrum. My dad was a Democrat, and my mom a Republican, so I got to hear different perspectives growing up, which really helped me appreciate all the issues from both sides.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In 2013, my stepmother kept my father, Casey Kasem, isolated from his friends and family, denying us the chance to see him during the final year of his life. My father was a humanitarian who stood up in the face of adversity, even when it wasn’t popular, and his courage inspires me to this day. That experience changed my life and fueled my fight to protect elder rights. I founded the Kasem Cares Foundation to ensure no other family has to endure what mine did. We passed the Kasem Cares Visitation bill in 12 states with 9 other states adopting a version of our bill. Most recently, this past year, we got another bill passed in California with Senator Susan Rubio. Our efforts earned us the Presidential Volunteer Service Award and a Certificate of Congressional Recognition.
I spent an entire year working alongside producer Aliza Rosen to bring my family’s story and my father’s journey to life in the Audible podcast Bitter Blood: Kasem vs Kasem. It sounds like a true crime podcast, and it’s crazy to say that, but living it felt so surreal.
I’ve always had a bit of fire in me and a passion for helping people, whether it’s through advocacy for elder abuse prevention or promoting health and wellness. Another obstacle I overcame was a personal 11-year battle with Lyme disease. I endured countless misdiagnoses and was incredibly sick by the end of those years. I finally found relief through oxygen therapy with Kaqun, and what ultimately healed me completely was Dr. Marie’s bio-magnetic therapy. That experience taught me the importance of perseverance and opened my eyes to alternative therapies that can transform lives.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’ve been lucky to spend over 26 years working in radio and TV, hosting shows like Sixx Sense with Nikki Sixx, The Side Show Countdown, and Rising Star on ABC. I’ve also worked with MTV, the UFC, E! Channel, and hosted America’s Funniest Home Videos internationally. Most recently, I launched my podcast, Rock Sugar Magic with Kerri Kasem, where I not only talk about music but also dive into alternative health and anything that interests me that I think will help the listener. It’s all about sharing stories and knowledge that can make a positive impact.
Alongside my media career, I opened a biomagnetic clinic in the Tampa area to help people who suffer from Lyme disease and other ailments. Dr. Marie’s biomagnetic therapy healed me, and she has her own clinic outside of Los Angeles. I’ve been instrumental in helping people open clinics in Las Vegas and Fort Myers to offer the same life-changing therapy to others.
What makes you happy?
My happiness truly comes from helping people and animals. Whether it’s through my biomagnetic clinic, my work with the Scientology Volunteer Ministers, or my emergency animal rescue efforts, I’m passionate about making a difference. I’ve been with the Volunteer Ministers for 15 years and have helped in places like Haiti—twice, after the earthquakes there—Mexico City during its devastating quake, Texas during the horrible flooding, and Florida to assist with hurricanes.
I also belong to an emergency horse evacuation rescue team, and during the last two major fires in Los Angeles, I’ve helped rescue dozens of animals—from sheep and lambs to chickens, dogs, and cats.
When I was a kid, horses were the most magical thing on earth and they still are, they bring me so much joy! I’ve also taken up flying helicopters, which has become an exciting new passion of mine over the past couple of years.
I feel blessed and I truly love my life!
