Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenz Lawrén.
Hi Kenz, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I began modeling at 17 and later decided to commit to it as a full-time career at 18 when I moved to Los Angeles from my hometown in Phoenix, Arizona. Like most models starting out, it was really tough in the beginning. The fashion and beauty industry is extremely competitive; especially in a major market like LA— nonetheless, I remained persistent.
In the beginning, no photographers wanted to work with me because I lacked experience. To my frustration, I fell stagnant for about a year but finally got the idea to reach out to makeup artists instead which eventually led me to becoming the face of one of my favorite brands, Anastasia Beverly Hills and Dolce & Gabbana! Unfortunately, during the peak of my career at the time, the pandemic hit. I eventually grew restless of the lack in work opportunities so I started creating content on TikTok. After posting a video of me removing my makeup, I woke up the next morning with millions of views!! The video now has 19.3 million views and was the kickstart to my current career; a full-time Model AND Influencer!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’ve endured quite the list of obstacles throughout my journey of pursuing modeling and influencing. The first obstacle was making the sacrifice of dropping out of college and moving to LA. Although I was very excited for the change, it was a big risk and would require me to be fully independent all at once with little support, considering I’d be in a new city all by myself. During my career modeling, I also struggled at times with my self-confidence and image. Models are held to standards that are very unrealistic and hard to maintain— especially considering we’re not paid very well to begin with. At times, for the sake of my career, I had to prioritize paying for things like hair coloring, cuts, skincare, nails, clothes, and fitness classes before paying for quality food (healthy food can be expensive). Although I don’t recommend this approach to ANYONE, at the time, it’s what I felt pressured to prioritize in order to be somewhat financially stable.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a full-time Model and Social Media Influencer. I spend my day-to-day life going to castings, shoots, producing shoots of my own or for other Models, filming and editing content curated for aspiring models and fashion & beauty enthusiasts. In the last year, I achieved my first billboard as the face of Anastasia Beverly Hills and was featured in Sephora’s and Ulta’s all over the world! Although the achievement I’m truly most proud of is bringing together a community of women of all different backgrounds that value the power of self-expression through fashion, beauty and empowerment!
