Meet Kenneth Brown of Kenneth Brown Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenneth Brown.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Kenneth Brown Design started back in 1997 after I had been working for a large commercial Interior Design Firm. I realized that my passion for interiors was more about working with people to help create their dream home. To date, we have worked on residential projects of all sizes including homes for Zac Efron and Kristen Bell.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
When the real estate market crashed in 2008, it was tough. I know now that if my company survived that, it can survive anything

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Kenneth Brown Design – what should we know?
My business specializes in creating custom interiors geared to the lifestyle of our client. We only take on a handful of projects each year.

50% of our projects are repeat clients while the other 50% are by referral only. Because we never have to advertise, we find that our clients come to us with confidence in our services which allows us to move quickly into the design process. Our dedication to customer service is what most of our clients and vendors rave about.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My biggest cheerleader when I started on my own was Lorrie Webb of JL Webb and Assoc. Her construction company landed me my biggest early gigs. The best design is not always what I create, but how it gets built and implemented. She was the best and has since moved onto development in other states. I also had a TV show back in 2002 which ran for 4 years. This was back when HGTV focused on design and that certainly helped put me on the map.
