Meet Kennedy Porter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kennedy Porter.

Kennedy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started modeling when I was 16-17 because a few friends of mine had cameras and were eager to get out and test them out. Needless to say, I fell in love with modeling first. Just when I started getting my portfolio built up, I was encouraged to audition for a school play with ZERO acting experience and I got the lead. That encouraged me to move to LA to become a Theater Arts major at LMU and pursue acting. At LMU, I have done three productions and had a lead role in two of them, reaffirming my passion for the arts. Currently looking for representation to get the ball rolling. I still enjoy modeling but acting has stolen my heart.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
So far, my road has had minor bumps and I’m thankful for that.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
As an actor, there’s a narrow-broad range of rolls that really suit you. For myself, I’ve been known to play the funny lead (classic), or a serious, almost evil antagonist. I think my ability to play both sides of the spectrum is something I’m most proud of and view as something that sets me apart from a lot of actors. Since I’m still fairly new to the industry, I look forward to facing new archetypes, new characters, and branching out into other aspects of the entertainment industry. Another other side of acting I’ve considered trying out was Voice Acting. Whether it was for commercial or a character, I realize its something worth pursuing as well.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
PERSISTENCE and PATIENCE are two things I feel are essential for my success in the acting world. Persistence is key especially for me right now in my search for representation. Whether I’m sending out emails or wildly searching through agencies on IMBDPro, persistence, and getting myself into a state of flow has made the process effective. Patience is there for me when my rehearsals get canceled, its there for me when I’m waiting anxiously for an email response and its with me because I know that in time, I’ll get where I want to be.

IMAGINATION IS ESSENTIAL. If you can’t see it, it doesn’t exist in your world. Meaning that if you can grasp your success in your “mind’s eye” then it’s attainable and is waiting for you. I’ve always been interested in the idea that if you can see/imagine something then it’s yours. I’ve taken that idea with me at every audition and call back and have been met with relative success.
