Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendall Duplessis.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I loved doing hair since I was 8 years old. I have a close cousin that says to this day, I was her very first client. When we were around 9 I told her, I was her hairdresser and completely cut off one of her ponytails! As I grew up I took an interest in making people feel good about themselves! I went to Cosmetology school for 2 years and graduated. Following school, I went straight into a salon environment without any hesitation. I didn’t assist anyone being that I was a beginner stylist. I just jumped right on in. I have worked in many salons with a lot of talented stylists. I learned many techniques from a stylist that were in the industry longer than me. The beauty industry is such a competitive industry, I started to notice regardless of that one person that will befriend you, there are also people who are intimidated by your talents in the salon environment. You might have a vision for yourself that is bigger than they can perceive for themselves. I experienced this from time to time from salon to salon! There was a time in the salon when I was limited and told as a Black stylist to stay within my culture. I didn’t understand that at all. I feel if you are a hairstylist you should know how and want to service any hair type. I felt trapped in my career. I knew I had to be my own boss and take my career into my own hands and pursue my dreams. I gained knowledge and experience through hair shows, photo shoots, weddings, film, and of course salons. I became certified in various services to offer people of all cultures.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all! There wasn’t much support that I thought I would get from family and friends. Many late nights and time away from my daughter. I was a one-woman show with networking, promoting, and advertising. Since it’s a competitive industry building a solid customer base is a struggle. I had to keep up with trending styles, cuts, hair color.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with HairCoutureMe – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
HairCoutureMe is a salon that caters to all hair types such as ethnic hair, Asian hair, straight hair, curly hair etc. It’s a private luxury setting where the customers have more of a one on one encounter with the stylist. That pretty much sets apart HairCoutureMe from other salons. It will give you the comfort and privacy as if having a personal stylist in your very own home! How cool is that! Offering a wide variety of services such as hair color, hair cutting, smoothing treatments, chemical services, up do’s, etc. I specialize in extensions and hair replacement. There are a lot of women who struggle with Alopecia, thinning hair, female pattern baldness etc. who needs special attention. I make custom wigs with HairCoutureMe Indian Temple Human Hair, that is also available to purchase for extensions. Human hair wigs are very popular and in demand not only for the women with these challenges but also in the Entertainment Industry. As a company, I’m most proud to offer this Hair Replacement service to women and bring back the joy that may have been lost due to their challenges. Women want to feel beautiful and feel worthy of themselves. Our hair plays a very special role in producing this satisfaction.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I’m looking forward to Franchising! I want to see HairCoutureMe all over the world!!
