Meet Ken Stephens Jr. of The Black Agenda

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ken Stephens Jr.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My upbringing wasn’t the best in the world but it was better than most in my proximity. Being in an environment that could breed world changers and world enders showed me I can create my own heaven or hell on earth. The trials and tribulations that life threw at me propelled me to be who I am today.

In life, I’ve had many gut checks but the biggest one was losing my mother December 29th, 2010 in the middle of my senior year of high school. As you can imagine, it was traumatic but I was forced into counseling that helped me grow stronger mentally and conceptualize death. This was big for me as I saw the world in a new light and committed myself to living the life of my wildest dreams.

My purpose is to educate and empower the Black community but even more specifically the Black Woman. My purpose found me as I started to realize that women are the backbone to the Black Community and uplifting them can uplift a nation. A nation can rise no higher than its women.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road hasn’t been smooth but it has been worth every single toll I’ve paid for my mistakes and ignorance. I was homeless back in 2018 and that happening gave me a great awakening, it was a really dark time in my life where I had no faith, focus, and minimal effort towards my life goals. The biggest struggle in business was finding the proper guidance in business, as a first-generation entrepreneur, I had to realize I’m setting the foundation for generations after me and I have to be able to sacrifice everything to create a solid foundation for myself, my family, and the world. I truly brought into the concept of “No struggle, no progress” and life has been better ever since.

Derrick Grace, Brother Ben X, Jake Tayler Jacobs, Lizzy Jeff, 19 keys, Shawn Idom, Jason King, Khadija Grant, and Akanundrum all have been instrumental in shifting my mindset. All of the said names are shifting the culture in mindset, business, and life. I can truly credit all of them for bringing me to the realization that I can do anything I put my mind to if I’m willing to submit to the teachings and put in the work. I’ve always been one of the most knowledgeable people in my circle but now I’m striving to be the most intelligent person.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Black Agenda – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The Black Agenda is my company name and we educate and empower the Black Community. More specifically specializing in business start-ups for Black Women, we help you register your business with your state/IRS and educate women on effective business strategies to get their business off the ground. We are known for our free teachings on social media, empowerment apparel, and empowerment of the Black Community that signifies our mission as an organization.

I’m most proud of the fact that we are on a great trajectory and built a strong team of Black women that make The Black Agenda what it is. Markee Murphy (Marketing/Graphic design manager) is a natural born creative, she lives in the arts. She owns an online marketing agency offering branding, graphic design, web design and social media marketing services. If doing what you love for a living was a person it is her. Khadijah Davis (Administrative assistant) has been instrumental in keeping me on track and handling quality assurance. Nephtalie Pierre-Louis (Project Manager) has been with me in every business endeavor as well as managing her company Chateau Blaque. I feel as if we’ve assembled the dream team for Black education and empowerment.

The Black Agenda has set itself apart from other companies by being consistent in the support of the Black Community, Black education, and Black empowerment. We pride ourselves on being proactive and not reactive in our efforts to change the narrative around the Black community. We show up everyday for the Black Community, not just when it’s trending or popular to do so.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I’m a person that’s really connected with nature when I have the time, the palm trees, beaches, and sunny weather is like no other.
