Meet Kelly Gant of Denise Marie Skin Care in Inglewood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Gant.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My best friend and I started out because she has very sensitive skin, along with psoriasis and eczema. The steroids and creams that her doctor would prescribe her were not working or if they did she could get a short-lived amount of comfort. I use to work in a pharmacy so I started asking my pharmacist about different natural remedies that could possibly help my friend out because to be honest, I was tired of hearing her complain. After doing some research, we started making different products to help soothe her flare ups and as time went on her hands and skin started improving. At that moment, we realized that we should share what we have created with other people, to help ease their discomfort as well… without having to use harsh chemicals.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road by far; dealing with trying to find our voice as a company to the many failed recipes to trying not to get discouraged at events when we don’t make any sells. Each obstacle we take as a learning lesson and see what changes we can implement to be become better everyday. It can be difficult not to become discouraged but when we receive messages or have customers come up to you telling you how much they love our products it makes the hard times worth it.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Denise Marie Skin Care story. Tell us more about the business.
We are an all-natural skincare line that makes and test all products by hand if a product hasn’t been tested on me or my partner for a min of four months… it will not be put out. We take pride in being able to provide the most authentic product (with ingredients that you are able to pronounce). We are most known for our skin loving soaps; ranging from our turmeric to charcoal tea tree to shea butter oatmeal to strawberry; they benefit all types of skin types with premium ingredients.

I’m most proud of our ability to grow and expand in the way that we have, don’t get me wrong we have a long way to go but from starting off with just three products to now having over 15 products with different variations is amazing. I’m also proud in our ability to adapt to and keep a positive head on our shoulders, there have been plenty of times when I wanted to quit and throw in the towel but at this moment Denise Marie Skin Care is bigger than just me or my business partner… we have formed a family with our customers and I want to keep putting out products that they are proud of.

What sets apart is our ability to relate t our customers, we started making products for selfish reasons and when we realized that we could possibly help people we jumped on the opportunity. Between my business partner and myself we have been through a lot and use those experiences to give our customers the best products that we are capable of providing.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see our industry being way more saturated then it already is, every single day there is a new company selling the same dreams. But I know as long we true to who we are and to our customers I know there will always be a place for us.
