Today we’d like to introduce you to Keli Price.
Actor/Director/Producer Keli Price is best known for his roles as Chris Abeley in the comedic drama film The Clique, and Zak in the DreamWorks AwesomenessTV musical drama Side Effects. He currently has five films in post-production that are set to be released in 2019. Among them, is the new superhero feature “The Hyperions” with Cary Elwes. Price plays opposite Elwes as the villain, Ares. He is also currently shooting the comedy “Reboot Camp” alongside Ed Begley Jr., Eric Roberts, David Koechner, and Chaz Bono. Price recently directed and produced the feature documentary ‘On Thin Ice’ which is now available on iTunes, Amazon, FandangoNOW and Google Play.
Price grew up in New York.
As a child, he was surrounded by the arts. His father was a musician, his mother was in the fashion business and his uncle was an extra in movies. When he was ten years old, he was invited to watch his uncle act as an extra on the set of Stuart Little and quickly realized this was something he wanted to do. Price struggled with learning disabilities and used the arts as a way to help him through school. He was failing his classes, so he decided to perform his presentations to the class in song or scenes, and started getting A’s for the first time. Price continued to do this up until his high school graduation. His first foray into the field was in the Warner Bros. film “The Clique” where he starred alongside Bridgit Mendler and Vanessa Marano as “Chris Abeley.” The project was directed by Michael Lembeck, executive produced by Tyra Banks, and was based on the bestselling novel by Lisi Harrison. Since then, Price has appeared in television shows such as ‘About a Boy’ (NBC) where he portrayed “Gus”, and ‘Your Family or Mine’ (TBS), where he played the role of “Colin” alongside Richard Dreyfuss and JoBeth Williams. He was also a series regular in a musical series entitled ‘Side Effects’ for E! and AwesomenessTV which is now on Hulu. He’s had lead roles in films such as ‘Sleep No More’ from the executive producers of Final Destination, ‘One Fall’, produced by Dean Silvers (Spanking the Monkey, Flirting with Disaster), ‘The Sound of Magic’, and ‘The Naked Brothers Band’ (Nickelodeon) as the British Rocker, “Bobby Love.” He was awarded the BMI Young Songwriter of the Year award and received the Abe Olman Scholarship Award for Excellence in Songwriting.
Price recently created, directed, produced and narrated a feature documentary ‘On Thin Ice’ that partially chronicles the life of his great-grandfather, a world-class speed-skater whose dreams of competing in the Olympics were shattered by anti-semitism and socio-political bias. The film calls attention to athletes who have struggled for acceptance not only in sport but in society. It highlights their collective fight for fairness and examines the parallels between playing the game on the field and making sociopolitical progress off the field. It features Evander Holyfield, Allyson Felix, Apolo Ohno, and Robbie Rogers.
Has it been a smooth road?
There are new challenges every single day for me. With ‘On Thin Ice’, I had never made a movie before as a director or producer, I was only in front of the camera previously. Then, I had to find somebody that could shoot the movie. I had to figure out how to craft the story. I had to get in touch with the athletes. These are well-known athletes, so it wasn’t easy to get in touch with them—it took weeks to hear back from some of them. Once we got in touch, they were very responsive, helpful, and just incredible. They’ve all gone through so much, and you could see how it made them better people. They’re some of the coolest, well-rounded, and most beautiful people I’ve ever met. I had to find a cast, cinematographers, sales representatives, and distribution. I would send emails upon emails. Those were some of the obstacles, but there were so many more. My co-producers will tell you, it’s been an uphill battle. We kept moving because we knew that we had something special. We knew we were going to get it made. When I’m creating content in hopes of bettering society in some way, it’s very difficult for me to give up.
