Meet Keith Hodges of Mind in Muscle Coaching in Beverly Hills/Sherman Oaks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keith Hodges.

Keith Hodges is a graduate of Indiana University’s School of Kinesiology. Specializing in Functional Strength and Conditioning, Loaded Movement Training, Hypertrophy, Nutrition, Corrective Exercise and Pre/Postnatal Fitness. He got his start by experimenting on himself and transitioned to working with weight loss clients. As his love for fitness increased he began studying human movement which created an avenue for him to work with athletes as well. By combining those aspects, he not only helps individuals achieve their weight loss goals but helps them move better as well. He has worked with athletes on all levels including numerous NBA, NFL, MMA, and Pro Boxing athletes. Hodges has also worked with the Special Olympics, training athletes in advance of their respective competitions.

As an advocate of healthy living, Hodges believes in creating healthier habits to achieve long-term health and wellness. He services individuals through education along with utilizing multiple aspects of fitness in order to reach the desired goal. This varied approach shocks the body creating muscle confusion, providing an avenue to break through plateaus. He believes it’s what helps keep his workouts both fun and challenging.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, it was not a smooth road to get to where I am currently. Being originally from Indiana, my goals, dreams, and aspirations far exceeded what my hometown had to offer. After weighing out my options, I decided Los Angeles was the route to go. Upon moving, I (thought) I had a master plan figured out (from A through E) which in turn, entirely failed — my original living situation didn’t work out as expected, I hit financial hardships, had no choice but to sleep in my car for a small period of time, and I was faced with the ongoing fear of the unknown. The transition was emotionally and mentally difficult. In addition, entering the field was (and still is) challenging and competitive. Having to build connections/clientele in a completely new environment is a hustle and trust in the business is a constant test.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I specialize in functional strength and conditioning and corrective exercise. I am most proud that I have been able to sustain my business in spite of hard times. I am reaching new audiences with minimal marketing initiatives, which means my work is speaking for itself. I believe what sets me apart from others is my application and creativity. I can tailor my style of training to work with various demographics ranging from youth, adults, seniors and professional athletes. I have great mentors and I was taught well. I understand movement and if you see my clients performing movements, there is a reason behind it. I never have clients doing an exercise because I believe it “looks cool” and I never use the same workouts for multiple clients. Every individual’s workout is based on their individual needs. Being able to construct workouts and teach proper movement to help a professional athlete, celebrity or child reach their goal is an art. A lot of people underestimate how hard it is to make a living in fitness. I am very fortunate to have made it this far.

What were you like growing up?
As a child, I was very inquisitive and asked a lot of questions. I always wanted to learn as much as possible. Personality-wise, I was reserved until I got to know people better. All-in-all, I was easy to get along with. My interests as a child were: video games and playing sports.
