Today we’d like to introduce you to Keisy Hernandez.
Keisy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born in El Salvador and at the age of 16 I moved to USA. As i migrated to this country with no knowledge of the English language, I knew I would come far by accomplishing and working hard for what i always dreamed of, be a successful person. After graduating from High School and College I decided to enroll in beauty school. It was just an open door to do what i love to do,Hair!. I became a Cosmetologist in 2005, I started working for a company(Supercuts) rigth after i graduated from beauty school . Which it really open more opportunities to train and become better at my craft. After working for that company for 7 years I moved to another state. I started working at a full service salon (JCPenny Salons)and stayed there for 2 years which i really learned a lot and gain more knowledge and experience. I came back to CA and went back to work for the same company (Supercuts)for 6 more years. As time went by I had always had in mind to open my own bussiness. I was waiting for the right opportunity to come and knocked at my door, unfortunately I had tried to open my bussiness a few years back but it was just not happening for one reason or another . Till one day, I clearly woke up and thought to myself, this is the time and if going to happen its going to happen now, i was tired of working for companies and not seen any growth in my career. I always wanted to grow in the hair industry and that was my time . After looking for different locations for over 6 month, Sola Salons Studios pop up on my facebook, i knew then , this is my chance , its was the opportunity I’ve been waiting for. I decided to take the leap of faith and here I am almost a year later as a bussiness owner and stronger than ever!
Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t been easy to start my own bussiness . It takes a lot of work and dedication. It also takes courage to let that fear go. Jumping into something without know if its going to work or not its scary. I had experienced from bank loans rejection to some of my closest family and friends not supporting me .Here I am being optimistic and positive that everything is going to take time and patience!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the KC Hair Studio story. Tell us more about the business.
KC Hair Studio is a small suite which is designed to assist my guest and help them with their hair needs. My goal is to make my client as comfortable as possible so they can relax and enjoy in every service offered.I want to make them feel at home. I specialize in Haircuts for man, women and children. I also do color, highligths, ombre and balayage(french word for free hand hair painting). I use different techniques of hair cuting for which it makes the haircuts unique and personal. As my own boss im mostly pround that i can provide what my clients was by going above and beyond their expectations.the fact that my client has my full attention and and i work one on one with them its what makes my studio set apart from other full service salons.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Im a big believer that if i work hard for what i want , sooner or later will come smoothly. My next big plan is to open a bigger salon /barbershop where i can offer many more services to my clientele. Its always been my dream, and i know that hard work pays of. Hopefully in the future more doors open for me to make my dream come true.
