Today we’d like to introduce you to KD Hancock.
KD, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is KD Hancock. My non profit is called Fist Union. It’s a non profit focused on teaching at risk youth three core principles of emotional control, sexual discipline and financial literacy. Through boxing, martial arts, wrestling, jiu jitsu, combat training and physical fitness. Our goal is to make sure any and every child without a mother or father or even a home has a place to learn, grow, train, and receive spiritual guidance. The goal is to have a Fist Union “bunker” coast to coast. In Los Angeles, Denver, Kansas City, Philadelphia and Virginia Beach. This work is a never ending task but through community, dedication, sacrifice and efficiency we can be what a lot of youth need in the world right now.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road thus far. However when the community sees what I’m doing with our back to school giveaways and breakfast programs, we always have great turnouts and support. Fist Union is still in its infancy but with enough quality work and community commitment I know we will blossom and be able to reach millions.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am currently a professional fighter and coach. I had a seizure in 2023 which would’ve been my first main event as an mma fighter. I’ve been blessed to be cleared and able to still compete even as I age. With my team Westcoast Athletics we are able to teach and reach. I am most proud of the fact this was built from scratch and we only continue to grow. What sets us apart is our mission, understanding that children are missing key elements in their growth that is going to take more than just going to school.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The quality that is most important to my success is to always be conscious. To remain in a conscious contact with god and let his will direct my steps.
