Meet Kazumi Morton of Salon Kazumi in Beverly Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kazumi Morton.

Kazumi, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I moved to Los Angeles at the young age of 21 from Kyoto, Japan with the burning desire with only 1suitcase to explore the world. When I moved to California I spoke not a word of English, I went to English school and soon after I attended Vidal Sassoon Academy to study hair, hair was always my hobby and passion. I met with my mentor Stuart Gavert and start to traveling the world to teach hair color and worked with him for many years, he passed away but he was the greatest colorist and mentor, I worked at his salon for many years then moved Jonathan and George (formerly known Neil George) for almost 8 years then pursued creating my own product “Root Vanish” and finally open my own salon SALON KAZUMI March 2016.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It wasn’t a smooth road, when I came to Los Angeles I knew little to no English. I worked the same day I got off the plane from Japan, while I go to English school I worked as a waitress on the weekends. My families were always a strong support system for me but not be able to see them for years when I go through challenging time was really tough for me.

Salon Kazumi – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Salon Kazumi is a salon where the experience and customer service is number one, we strive for that high-end luxury experience. Where you know you can leave happy knowing you got the perfect hair, and feel pampered.

I specialize in color and extensions. I’m known best with brunettes, giving them that sun-kissed highlights without losing integrity of the hair with our any brassiness, as a company we are most proud of amazing teamwork and being a Zen salon, where the energy is always positive and uplifting in the salon. We’re a family and we always support each other. Salon Kazumi is different than other salons for the fact that we pride ourselves and so passionate about our work.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Some of the proudest moments in my career are, creating my own product and going live and sold out on HSN, opening my own dream salon and seeing my assistants grow to be amazing colorists and seeing my children growing up to be wonderful human being.
