Today we’d like to introduce you to Kazi Rezai.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kazi. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
As many of you may already know, Opioid Addiction/Overdose/Death has become a National Epidemic. It is now the number 1 cause of preventable death in the U.S. (more so than motor vehicle accident deaths). However, 97% of Doctors are NOT Suboxone Certified, by choice! In the middle of this epidemic, only 3% of Doctors are willing to even touch Opioid Addiction.
So, in addition to Primary Care and Urgent Care, I also practice Addiction Medicine and I’m Suboxone Certified. Helping patients overcome addiction is one of my personal passions. I was a Professor of Medicine, and this is a topic I very carefully explained / discussed with my students in my Pharmacology and Pathophysiology classes. I think we’ve reached a point where almost everyone knows someone affected by addiction. I simply prefer to treat it as anyone else suffering from a disease, and not let the specter of stigma cloud my best medical judgment.
Please feel free to browse our website. You will find links on the top right and very bottom of each page. I treat everyone and all ages. But I personally gain the most satisfaction from helping the most vulnerable demographics:
1) Uninsured. We have a discount cash price of ONLY $85. (I have done plenty of Urgent Care in the past… and the self-pay price they charged to see me was usually $260… and limited to ONE complaint. That’s just too much to take from those who have so little.)
2) Elderly. I gladly accept traditional Medicare (red, white, and blue card) in a time when increasingly that is being turned down, or patients are having to get Medicare IPA / HMO plans.
3) Addiction. It is a Disease. It crosses all ethnic, cultural, racial and socio-economic boundaries. I have seen too many lives with great potential simply destroyed. I have also been humbled and gained deep satisfaction from seeing these fractured and tortured souls become whole, functional and contributing members of society.
Taking all that I have learned (so far) from my various experiences, I decided to start my own Medical Practice (something which less than 1% of Doctors currently do! Most are employed Physicians now). I started seeing patients at my new Clinic in Huntington Beach in April 2017. You are welcome to visit.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Life is full of obstacles. If things are simply given to you, there is no appreciation for the process.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Coastal Primary Care – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We specialize in the improbable and the unlikely. And yet, we still get results.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Looking forward to being busier, but never turning anyone away.
